Bluetooth receiver adapter to y-cable and stream music!
I've been trying to figure out a way to stream music via bluetooth. So far, I know there are products out there which can receive bluetooth from your phone which is then routed to your car through aux. There's a discussion on different products in this thread:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=838501 However, I'm trying to find something which connects directly to the 30-pin y-cable essentially replacing your phone. http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Rece..._bxgy_e_text_y http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9SIA1PU0GC1582 The above links are an example of what I am thinking of, a bluetooth receiver which connects to your phone and then streams music directly to the y-cable. The question I now have is whether these will work in our cars and whether we will be able to use our built in headunit controls on these. Many bluetooth music docks will pair to your phone and also have the functionality of controlling (play/pause/skip) from the dock/remote instead of the phone which is exactly the functionality required. I just need one in the form of a dongle receiver. So basically if this works, I will be able to simply connect the dongle (paired to phone) to my y-cable, and then the functionality will be the exact same as if the phone is plugged in directly such that I will be able to use our headunit controls. This dongle will need to speak ipod Accessory Protocol to communicate with the iPhone. |

I have this item, but I have the original one and it seems to work just fine in the configuration you are talking about. Sound comes through just fine and stays connected. But, my CIC sees it only as an AUX input so no head unit controls. From what I can see, the new version only increases the wireless range.
But I am very interested in a BT module that would be able to control your smartphone from the HU as well, so I'm hoping that someone knows what you're looking for. I hope this helps.
