Every two years. Reason for the frequency is that brake fluid is hydroscopic (absorbs water). So the first time you realise you have a problem is when the fluid/water mix boils and you have no brakes!

Not cautious enough regarding distance remaining until the next oil change - at least 20,000 miles between services for mine, I would never wait that long and always change my oil + filter every 8-10k.

My impression was that the real concern is that since the fluid absorbs moisture, over time it would cause your lines to rust from the inside out if left unchanged.
However, maybe the fluid boiling is a real concern as well - I'm no expert

OP: Whenever I do pads I bleed the lines and refill.

Mate what are you talking about?!

The oil is synthetic and is designed to go extremely long, the 10,000 myth is something E90posters have recommended based on no real factual evidence. My colleague has an E90 318i and has always waited for the CBS to come up and go red before he changes his oil and his has done over 150,000 miles and has followed this approach since he bought the car in 2006.

I'm not supporting it, I'm just stating the fact that the CBS is a load of tosh.

I thought my post was clear but apparently not.

My CBS generally indicates that I can get about 20,000 miles between oil changes. In my opinion 20,000 miles is too long to be leaving oil in the engine, call me cynical but I tend to think long oil change intervals are there to satisfy fleet buyers as the servicing costs within the warranty period are therefore kept to a minimum.

When I bought my car at 90k it had been serviced according to the schedule, it did however develop a nasty timing chain rattle at 108k that was sorted out under warranty thankfully. However I can't help feeling that these infrequent oil changes might have been detrimental in some way. It certainly can't have helped.

Given the £50 cost of an interim oil change, it's hardly going to break the bank for a bit of preventative maintenance!

I'm not disagreeing with your last point at all, not sure why you wrote that.

HONESTLY. I do a fluid flush every year and brake hose change every 2 years. The difference is unbelieveable. My first set ran for 3 years and when the brake perfomance gradually decreases. You won't notice the brake performing poorly hence you said the brakes still perform very good.

My best advice is to get the fluid change at the least. Maybe day to day commute it stops fine but when you really need the brake to brake very hard and it fails... You woukd wish you done some maintenance.

I also have interim oil changes (every 7.5k) but it's a bit more than £50! £70 for oil, £20 for filter and £40 labour (at main dealer) = £130

Yours is a 330d though so takes more oil.

5 litres of Fuchs XTL titan is about £35-40ish plus a £10 filter.
