Anyone thinking of doing ED pickup in Jan/Feb
Subject says it all. Any of you thinking of doing an ED delivery in Jan or Feb? I heard the roads are icy, but would like to get the car soon instead of waiting until late Mar or Apr when the weather gets better.
Has anyone done ED in the winter time? How did it work out for you? Thanks.. |

Chances of bad weather probably 50% or less on a given day. Winter wheels and tires available as rental. Option to have car driven directly from BMW Welt to Harms on a better day is available. Air fares are cheap. Not so many tourists around. On the other hand, a big part of the experience of ED is the trip, and the trip in the dead of winter won't be as much fun, even if there isn't any ice or snow on the roads.

i check the airfares. I didn't even try to look for cheap fares and I was able to find them at ~$500.
I'm sure someone has done ED in the winter. Anyone? |

I'm thinking about doing one around President's day weekend but I'm not 100% yet. Most likely would either drive the car straight to Harms or have it towed if there is any snow/ice on the roads.

I put in a reservation request for mid-Jan and haven't gotten confirmation on my date yet. Flights are very cheap, but it will be cold and there will be a chance that I won't get to drive much. I've been second guessing my decision because I would really like to drive around and not have to go through the hassle of winter tire rental.
I'm just very impatient and want my car sooner than later. I don't mind the idea of flying in for a few days and enjoying time away, considering it will cost me about the same as just ordering for US delivery. I would love to really enjoy the ED experience (Germany, Italy, France), but I don't want to rent a car for 3-4 months while I wait for better weather. I'm sticking to the date now, and may move it to March at the latest if I decide to change it (not that March weather is much better). |

If that's the case, I can just get the car towed to port and travel around germany with public transport. It's going to be difficult to wait until March / April to pick up and wait another 5 weeks or so for it to get to the states.
