Cobb Round Two
Since buying a second car I decided once again it would be a good idea to get my daily some more horsepower, but knowing full well that the last time I used the Cobb ECU the car misfired. So I sold that unit.
Today, I received another in the mail and the instant I took off with the Sport Map V401 the engine misfired and the engine went into limp mode. It threw 11 codes. Mind you, I had the car up to 130 stock just the day before and it drove like a dream. After getting the codes, I turned the car off, reset the codes and drove on again business as usual. That is until I floored it and the car went nowhere. The codes I got were: P0300 P0303 P0304 P0306 P2AAF P29CF P29D0 P29D2 P29CC P30FF (pre boost control, boost pressure to leak fron pressure line) When the car is reset to stock, no Cobb it drives and pulls like crazy. My goal is to basically have a car that has an ECU mod, intercooler, downpipes and an exhaust at 380-400 crank. I don't think the plugs have ever been changed. What course of action do you guys recommend besides the plugs? should I do coils, plugs and injectors all at one? Seems to be really expensive just to get a turn to run right. tThanks. |

I would try plugs and go from there. Also check all connections I know it's stock and holding fine but with increased boost it'll bring to light some things that otherwise would have gone unnoticed. Also just as a Hail Mary check your charge pipe too

Im assuming you mean Stg 1 Sport, what happens if you try Stg 1 Drive? Agree with Chepy24 though, plugs/coils would be my first suspects.

No way in hell I'd buy injectors based on speculation (or coils for that matter). Anybody care to make out what those codes are. They should point you in the right direction.

Plugs I just got mine on ebay, that came out cheapest for me. Injectors are pricey so I wouldn't necessarily start with that unless your 100% sure that's the issue. Coils are cheaper than injectors by a lot.

you can get the plugs anywhere really i got mine from napa theyre just the bosh ones. theres a thread on how they are exactly the same minus the bmw stamp and tax....FWIW aggressive is for 93 drive and sport for 91 this could cause misfires.... if you are around e85 try a few gal mixed with 91 see if it helps

Buy oem plugs from a vendor on here. Try phil@reeves or getbmwparts. I switched from non oem to Bosch ZGR and now have misfire in 2 cylinders within couple hundred miles. Stick with oem they are $95-$100

Over 2k miles on regular Bosch ZGR6STE2 non OEM, switched in preparation for tune. Stg 2+ FMIC Sport not a single misfire so far.

There have been threads about it. Some people have had misfires and some haven't. The insides of the plugs are different. For couple bucks more I would rather just stick with oem since I never had misfires with them in the first place
