Broke down, HELP!!

08 335xi. At a red light and a yellow thermometer light comes up on the screen, less than 1 minute later, a red one and car shuts off. I had been driving for under 5 minutes at about 40 mph.

When I start the car now, the engine, belts and fans sound like they're moving 10000 mph when I'm not touching anything. It's like standing infront of a fan everything is going so fast until it over heats.

I'm out of warranty, any ideas what it could be?!?

Yes water pump failed. Do not attempt to drive car until it's been repaired. It's not a difficult DIY if you're mechanically inclined. Bavauto has a somewhat detailed how to video that you can follow. They can also supply you with parts if needed.

Since you are an XI the video isn't exactly accurate because we have a different subframe from the rwd cars. Its still helpful but just keep in mind access to the parts is a bit different.
