Thanks for the replies guys, I must admit I was still expecting to get flamed back to the stone age!
As you all know, the mere mention of anything other than Michelin Pilots on a BMW forum will usually crash the server due to high traffic of posters desperate to get on and explain how "you can't afford a BMW". I remember some of you from the E46 forum, and one post I always remember there was Barry (I think) who bought that bargain priced Gold E46 Coupe for something like £900, and then got pages of abuse because he didn't spend almost the value of the car again on tyres... Posters were literally saying "you can't afford to run a BMW" but they themselves were driving a 2002 E46 Sport (for example). Yeah maybe your car was £30,000.... 12 years ago! But now its worth less than the average entry level Kia you see on the road. I understand premium will inevitably perform better, of course they will, but the idea that you can simply throw on a set of premium tyres and then drive like a rally driver in all conditions is plain wrong. If someone can't keep their car pointed in the right direction just because of 'the tyres' then I'd say it's their driving that's the problem. Even when people say "you're only saving £250.00.. is it worth compromising your safety for that?" that's just on that set. Since 2003 I have run budget tyres on every car I have had. The savings over that time would probably be able to buy me a nice used BMW. Not only that but I don't feel that I am compromising my safety, if that car felt unsafe or I wasn't confident to drive it, they would be promptly taken off. The only time I have ever had a problem with Budgets was the Triangles I mentioned above, and I took them straight off end eBayed them and bought a better (still budget) brand. Since 2003 I have never had an incident; let alone a crash that has been the fault of the tyres. (In fact the only collisions I have had was when someone went into the back of me..) Anyway, enough ranting! I hope some of you guys that are unsure will give them a try. Worst case scenario you'll sell them on eBay for probably the same money you bought them for

your review makes me reconsider Nankangs lol... i used to run them on my E46 when i didn't really have a proper job... i think the problem with them is that they are really good for a while but they don't have the longevity of premium brands... they tend to crack and that - look like they are aging really quickly...
might just try them for a while... got falkens on which don't grip anywhere near as good as my old vreds even though they're wider!

It's always good to hear first hand advice.
I have Hankooks on my 335i which the previous owner put on. They have been superb and I've already go the replacements for the rears which I've burned down to the indicators. They've been on since 2011. Got a pair of Hankook Ventus S1 evo2, 19" for a little over £300. |

you get what you pay for. as an example I bought some s/h tyres budget ones, with nearly full tread for my track car. around brands it squealed like a pig and had no grip at all, then I found some nearly worn out pirellis and they gripped and gripped and did some for many track days. I think the cheaper tyres are fine provided you realise their limitations.
