Eff the bloody warranty! The car's fun, right? If so, mod the crap out of it and enjoy it. What's your alternative, a Camry? BMW makes one, they call it a 320i.

Thinking about a 335i with the N55? That motor has issues too even if they're not all HPFP related. You bought an E90d for a reason and it sure as Hell wasn't the low price. Did you get a lemon? I don't look at it that way. I see all the weaknesses in our cars, from the rear differential to the CBU issue, as an excuse to mod the crap out of it.

Why would I bother? Because the car is a damn beast, that's why! I've smashed it once and been quite rude to it on several other occasions. After I smashed it (NO "frame" damage), and I smashed it pretty good in a rear-ender, the insurance company paid for the $15k repair bill and the car was, literally, as good as new. I've roughed it up several times since then and it's easily the toughest damn car I've had since my '68 Buick California GS; a GS 400 with a 350 in it. Beat the crap out of a Toyota and see how long it lasts. Nothing is indestructible but this platform is amazingly rugged for a compact auto.
Actually I did buy the D for is low price (for how much performance you get). I traded in my Forester for about what I got my D for. The value on these cars has plummeted. My Forester was much tougher, but not as much fun to drive.

My car doesn't burn any oil either, following dealer 11k intervals and never had to add oil. However, I had CBU at 46k.

All cleaned now and running great.
To try to prevent and/or prolong this issue from arising, I have a catch can in place, and it does collect enough blow by; enough where I can see it causing a sticky situation when mixed with the EGR and soot.

EGR and soot alone is dry, shouldn't stick to parts. However, when mixed with oil, it's havoc.
