should I get non RFT for winter?

It's time to get snow tires. I have RFTs on my car. Though they are still working fine so far, there are so many complaints about them. I am wondering if I should get a set of non RFTs. Also, if i choose normal tires, do I still need to order TPMS for them? Thanks.

yes you need to order TPMS unless you enjoy alerts going off before driving with your winter shoes on. If you go through tirerack they run about $50 per corner. i went with a non-rft set because winter rft are expensive, especially when you go with larger sizes. but as backup i purchased the Continental winter goo/pump, this is what came standard with some M cars without spares so it must be good stuff. good luck.

thanks. I have 335i e90 with sp. Since there is quite some snow in boston winter, I am thinking to get 17 inches. Is that what you have? I am not quite sure what type of tire to get. From tirerack, if I choose the preferred 17 set, it's 205/50-17. however it's not listed under the link of "build your own packages", which have only 225/45-17. I think 205/50 is better in snow. Also, most them are "performance winter". Is this good enough for Boston winter? or Should I go with "studless ice and snow"? do you have some experience?

I just ordered my winter tire/wheel set today from Tire Rack. I ordered 17x17.5 Sport Edition A7 with 225/45HR-17 Dunlop Winter Sport M3 DSST RunFlat. ASA wheels were out of stock.

Talk to Gary at Tire Rack (ext 386). This is my first time purchasing winter tires/wheels and he was very helpful answering questions.

JUST FYI, If you have rubber valve stems you do NOT need TPMS sensors!

I have an e90 335 as well. I did not need TPMS sensors

i had Blizzak studless ice and snow and they were way too aggressive for Philly area. we only get snow a handful of times a year and to sacarifice performance for the entire winter is not acceptable to me. so the set i got is 18" Winter Peformance. it all depends on how safe you want your tires to be, how weather is in your area, and how important performance is to you. like others have said, Gary on tirerack is the man and will answer all of your questions. FYI if you order a winter set through him he will throw in the BMW OEM caps for FREE so hit him up!

Where did you get the continental winter goo/pump? does tirerack sell it? Thanks.

We do sell the kit called the Conti Comfort Kit for $79.

Unfortunately the BMW caps are now $6 each. Due to cost issues I can no longer provide them at no charge, sorry.

mine are 16's so i cant say for size, but I opted for winter performance runflats... conti ts 810 s ssr.

I just put them on yesterday... first thing I noticed was that they were quieter than the turanzas that came oem lol.

I bought a set a while ago and I didn't even know they came with BMW caps when I ordered them, so it was a nice bonus. Is the $6 stand alone price or it is that price only if you order a set?

I feel for you guys having to think about getting winter tire sets.
