Question Aston Martin

Anyone here ever owned an Aston Martin? I guess specifically the V8 Vantage. Just wondering, thinking about maybe getting a used one later but not now.

The thing is that I don't like storing cars, I want to be able to use them as much as I can, heck if its AWD, I'd use it in winter. It seems like the more you use the car the more you'll have problems.

Its such a very classy looking car. The price for a used AM is pretty good, perhaps too good to be true.

I'm guessing the new Jag F-type isn't a more practical alternative?

Well I wouldn't say it isn't. But since I don't plan to buy brand new for now the AM is "cheaper". Also I was never really a fan of the Jag.

Both the new jag and aston martin V8 Vantage looks gorgeous. But both in terms on reliability is horrid once it passes the warranty (similar to our BMWs i guess). I personally don't have an AM, but a buddy of mine used to be a Lot Guy for AM dealer for a while. Heard many stories. If you'll have extra change after buying the car, and you dont mind paying for things that might go wrong, then go with the AM (since that's the one you want). But if you just want a peace a mind, maybe do consider the F-Type or look at other new alternatives.

If i can afford it, i will take the F-Type even though i have always wanted a Vantage as well. Much newer car, newer designed, much updated interior, and warranty. Also for the price range maybe consider the new Porsche Caymen S? looks gorgeous too and should drive extremely good. Good Luck!

It seems this car has the worst depreciation compared to other high-end/exotic car.

It seems that even if there is a "good deal" on an AM it won't be a good deal anymore after spending lots of time and money on repairs.

AM's depreciation is just like the Maserati. Never buy em new unless you got bank bank. but then again I wouldn't drive one without warranty.

Not sure why M4 is not on the table for you? Especially if F-type is.

Avoid the early V8 Vantages like the plague. Two of my friends owned 07-08s several years ago and hated them. Constant nagging issues that made ownership annoying. One of them outright sold his the same year, the other traded it on the V12 which has had far fewer issues so far.

Old British cars out of warranty will destroy your wallet.

Just throwing it out there but I owned a 08 XkR prior to my 335 and it was one of my favourite cars. Highly underrated from the factory and one of the most reliable and comfortable cars I've owned and in my short 17 years of driving I've owned 14 cars ridiculous if I think about it but nobs the less. New jaguars are not comparable to older ones 2007 on and your buying a jag that wanted to resurrect itself to a top brand again. Jag Xkr weight 36xxpounds same as a 335i basically . 08 420hp 413tq and it sounded ridiculous. 2010 Xkr 510hp 461tq same weight ... Enough said there. 2012 new head lights and dynamic body kit.. Drive one before you try something else. Deprecation is horrid first 4 years but then it stays pretty good , that's also why it's a steal

I'm still considering the M4 for sure but the AM is just a different car, can't really compare them. AM is a weekend car and if its AWD then I will use it for winter as well, M4 is a DD and like a toy.

Never really thought of even owning a V12, I prob need to fill up every 300kms!

Wondering why you'd DD the M4 and not the AM =D if i can afford the AM i'll DD the hell outta it (but then again, reliability issues with a used older model Vantage). Both is RWD and given the choice, i'll pick up the 6MT for both. So winder driving should not be too good especially if you get harsh weather. Also keep in mind, the new M4 with all the packages and options will be around $100k+, which gives you a LOT of options in the used car market. Various different types of 4wd Porsches comes to mind (and yes, i'll DD that too) lol!

have fun researching, take your time to look around, drive, and decide. No rush into getting behind the wheel when you're paying out good money!! Good Luck!

Thats the problem with AM it could fall apart if you have it as a DD lol. If I was a millionaire then my DD would a Ferrari and my Winter Beater would be a Lambo AWD. I don't believe in cars being a garage queen! They are meant to be ridden and driven! Of course unless you have a classic collectable car.

Thats where I had a bit of a problem with the M4 its around $100k loaded. No doubt its a great car! But Porsche is a great option however the one I want is around $150k lol. Heck when I got my 335 it was already @ $72k! More than I expected on a 3 series non M!

I have been checking around and people's reviews the more I read the less excited I am about getting the AM. Its not like where issues are one off, its like every other AM has issues and not minor.
