Water Pump?
Came home from seeing my parents and a soon as I exited the highway, I stopped at a stoplight. The car shut off, but because I wasn't paying attention I assumed its because I let the clutch out. Started back up and drove home and it did it again, this time with a yellow coolant symbol. Now the car is driving ok, but.... I'm screwed, right?

maybe water pump. typical in these pos shit cars. Let it sit over night and check the coolant level in the morning. Check for leaks under the car also. Only way to tell. Try not to drive it until you check it in the morning, and if you do have to drive it make sure you dont overheat. THats where motor problems start such as head gasket problems.

Coolant was low, so I added some. I can't tell if it's been leaking because it's been raining all week.
Ordered a Kdan cable with software, and we'll see where it goes. Last edited by Taskmaster; 07-06-2014 at 10:15 PM.. |

If the warning was yellow, you should be ok, that is just to let you know it's low and you should refill. But if it's red that's when you should worry a bit.

Check coolant level. Add more. Monitor.
I had this symbol show up. Coolant evaporates sometimes

my '06 330i is currently at 91,000 miles and I replaced both water pump and thermostat around 90,000 just for peace of mind.

I got maybe 2 low coolant warnings (yellow) and added coolant which believe it or not the dealer did both times free of charge. ~3 months later at a stop light on during Friday rush hour is when I got the red warning and the car shut down. Not sure if the low coolant had anything to do with the pump failing but thought id add my 0.2.

You can test to hear if the water pump is working by performing the purge function. The red warning light is the one you need to avoid at all costs!!!
