Yet another n54 with injector issue? (with video)
Link to video:
Basically trying to figure this one out. The car has about 96k miles on it. Was coming home after a long trip to notice the tapping (which you hear in the video, i assumed it was hydraulic lifters) started being much more intense and consistent with load (does not tap at idle). I decided to try going wot and the car misfired, threw a CEL, and I assumed deactived a cylinder (sounded terrible). Limped the car home and got a code for misfire on cyl 6. The car had a walnut blast done and new plugs dont about 1000 miles ago. The car is tuned (Cobb pro tune). Any thoughts or ideas? I am thinking a failing injector (cylinder 6 plug has always come out smelling like fuel before) finally just gave up. |

Troubleshoot it. Switch plugs and coils with 2 diff cylinders and see if it follows. I bet it's a coil how old are yours?

Someone had a similar problem and same exact noise not too long ago. It was discussed on another forum. (BB) Replacing the injector fixed the issue.

IT"S AN INJECTOR. Hurry up and replace it too. That can cause serious problems if left unattended according to alexabrhouston, or whatever his name is, on BB. |

I made that suggestion from my phone app without watching the video. I would probably follow other's advice on this one. Sounds serious. Good thing is that if you have way to code it yourself and injector replace isnt too bad.

something told me 260 but was not sure. I had a 280Z that I completely restored (paint, suspension and motor as well) and later sold. Fun car, tho I would rather have had the lighter 240/260 with carbs but didn't have the money to go all the way as you have.

Just to go full circle with this thread. Got a set of injectors from ECS (12 index) to swap out all of the injectors. The injector on cylinder 6 had no decoupling element! So obviously someone screwed it up before me. Lame.
Anyways, that sound is gone now, car runs better! Will have to get it coded still at some point, but I'm happy. |

I ordered and took the video slightly before I posted this thread. I was committed to the injectors mainly because I had done almost everything else. I thought I lost my mind!
Anyways yea, they are actually really easy to install. Without the decouple on cyl 6, the injector was practically falling out. No wonder the car ran like garbage. |
