LCD screen and lighting problem?

I turned on my car today and I noticed that my Navigation screen seemed dimmer than usual. Has anyone noticed this?

In addition, I also thought I noticed the orange rings around the speedometer and tachometer flickered, but it could have been the way it caught my eye.

Any thoughts?
Andy

My NAV screen is always dimmer when I start my car when it is cold outside. It then gets brighter the longer I drive. I don't know about your tach but sometimes when it is very cold out, when I get into my car, the fuel gauge will jump and tick.

Real cold days can cause that and you should notice it gets brighter as it warms up if this were the case. You could test the light sensor for the NAv (iDrive display) by blocking the sensor and then shining a flash light into it. Should brighten if it thinks it is bright out and dim if it thinks it is dark.

Thanks for the help. Much appreciated. I dont now if the orange around the speed and tachometer flickerd. It could have been the way I looked at it.

Im just paranoid because I also have slight noise from my steering wheel at very low speeds when I turn. Just not sure if its worth going to the dealer for.

I have seen a couple of reports from SMG owners saying that their orange dash lights flicker (even go off for a second or two) when SMG shifted. Not all the time and only 1 or 2 reports that I remember.

Do not know if the E90, like E60 and E63, have the white tick marks just before red line tick marks that start out at lower RPM and gradually get closer and closer to the fixed Redline indication as engine warms up. Some times that has caught my eye and I think something blinked.

My nav display dims when the headlights are on. Could your automatic lights be cutting in, that could also explain the dash lighting?

never noticed the problem. maybe because by the time i get my car it's already dark out so even minimum brightness is bright enough for me. i'll have to give it a try during the day...

If you have the automatic lights/wipers option could this be activating due to the ambient conditions (or indeed due to a fault). This would have all of the effects of turning the headlights on, including activating the dashboard backlighting and dimming the I-Drive display.

I am not sure how much it takes to burn the image in a LCD but trust me it happens. I have 3 LCD's at work that have the Windows 2000 logo burned into it. Of course I am sure they were left on for hours and hours...

You should go to the dealer the noise in the steering wheel. I will have the entire steering column replaced in a couple of days. BMW guarantee.
