Advice/thoughts suspension thump noise
Hello all and TIA
I have a 11 335I coupe Auto w/27k miles. I recently put on a charge pipe, down pipe, JB4 and a KW V1. After the install of the KW I started noticing a bump noise when I backed up. Then I started noticing it when the weight of the car shifted from front to rear. I.e. drive to reverse and from reverse to drive and some times when I turn the vehicle at low speeds. like when pulling into a parking space. I took it back to the shop who did the install of all the goodies and asked them to look at it. When I picked it up later that week they said they could not hear it. Needless to say the noise continued. I took it back and took one of the Techs for a ride and was able to replicate the noise. He put it on the lift and took the under skirt off and grabbed ahold of the lower control arm/thrust arm (I think that is what he called it. It is the weird shaped one) and said that is your problem. He put a crowbar up in the space and wiggled the arm around. My questions are: Do any of you think this to be correct? If so could it be covered under the warranty (aftermarket suspension)? should I go with the 3M suspension arms offered from Offset or TurnerMS? Can any alignment shop install these? Again Thank You for taking the time to read and respond. |

There is supposed to be certain amount of movement in the bushing however you can tell if it is excessive if you compare from side to side or if it clunks when you move it yourself. The front arm will seem like it has excessive movement due to the ball joint but that is normal.

thanks for the input. I'm surprised at the 270+ views and no one has had this problem or I have not explained it well enough. I have to take it into the shoe for the 28K service and Vanos recall. I will ask them to take aloof at it then. I just need to remove the JB4 first. |

Check differential bushings and transmission mounts for play.
Fwiw some cars will do this more than others and it's not always a problem. |
