Orange ring in speedometer (speed control)

When desired speed has been set a red indicator moves up and indicates the speed.
Looking at the tachometer, a similar orange ring is in place but I cannot see that the rpm limit indicator changes position as the engine heats up. Anybody who knows why the tachometer have this orange ring?

both the speedometer and tachometer have an orange ring. I believe it is decorative. The part that moves to indicate cruise control and descent control speed is a small white mark, separate from the orange ring.

I don't think any non-M BMW's have had a moving RPM limit indicator. But perhaps someone can correct me.
