Replace CD player with a DVD player?

I have Nav and want to play MP3's from a DVD concurrent with navigation.
So anyone know if it's possible to replace the factory CD player with a DVD player? The CD and DVD units tend to be similar in size and if they're using IDE, then connectors should not be an issue. Also the CCC shouldn't care about the difference in capacity unless BMW did something stupid.

OK so no one knows if a seamless CD to DVD swap can be done?

I just read on another forum that "the 2 drives and the CCC motherboard are all one large unit. It is likely that they are both ATAPI drives, but the CCC unit would need to be disassembled." But that was for the E60.

The E90 setup appears to be heavily based on the E60 setup; the sticker on my TCU even says "BMW Everest E60 US".

You're right that it *shouldn't* care about the capacity of the drive, but weirdness is still likely IMHO

It'd be a neato hack if you want to try it, though. Maybe get a spare CCC from a boneyard and see what makes it tick?
