iDrive Knob Not Working

It seems the iDrive knob in my car may have reached its used by date. Most of the time, it does not respond when pressed, it is OK to move up/down and left/right. Any idea/recommendation to fix/replace it? Thanks.

might be a reason to change to the LCI version iDrive controller too if your current one is having a single "menu" button only (like mine).

I saw some posts here previously that ppl did this mod.

Thanks for that info. Cos I would love the nretrofit, I have done a bit of research on that too. But my car is a 2006 which may not be possible for the retrofit, hence looking for advice.

Just out of left field, If you have an iPhone 5 and are using an adapter cable to convert your old cable to the lightning plug, this may be the problem. Mine was doing the same thing, since cleaning my steering sensor and removing the convertor cable I have not had any issues.

Hi Max555, I have iphone 5 but only connect through the AUX plug for music. I recall having come across a thread about cleaning the steering sensor, could be too complicated to me. Let me dig out the thread and see if that is do-able. Thanks.

That's the same way mine was connected. The steering sensor clean looks worse than it is. I was up for $1500 as my indicators were no longer cancelling and I had lost DSC, Tyre pressure monitor DBS, so I figured I couldn't be any worse off. I did it without using any antic static mats or straps and was ultra careful. It took me about 1 1/2 hours from start to finish.
