rear diff small leak.

Have a small differential leak, it can be seen from the rear of the car on the diff cover itself on the passenger side. No drips on the floor or anything its just a shade of diff fluid over the passenger side of the diff. Could it be the drain plug seal? Or the diff cover gasket?
I've searched but all that pops up is how to change the diff fluid.

It looks like this except it goes from the top of the diff bolt to the right bottom. http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...1&d=1287931894

Could be the cover if it's not coming from the drain plug. You'd be able to easily see if it was the drain plug or not.

Idont think it's coming from the drain plug after looking at at daytime. Seems to be coming from where the differential connects to the bar that connects to the wheel

Lol! Idk if I'm keeping the car past 2 years because I'm waiting for a cts v to go down in price so I can fit my daughters car seat comfortably in a 4 door car. I was kind of considering it but rather hold the money for a rainy day. But I promise u I was thinking the same thing as soon as I saw it lol!

I am clueless when it comes to diffs, I've never had to mess with one till now. Where is the axle seal ? Where the boot connects with the diff? In there ? I kind of think it's coming from the area behind the boot it's like a rubber circle that is in between the rubber boot. And the diff.

Is it on the axles or drive shaft? Mine leaked on the drive shaft area. Part was like $20 and labor is $500. Hated getting that done.

You don't need to remove the entire axle, just the part that connects to the diff.

My seal was replaced under warranty thru VAC since I bought the Quaife LSD from them.

It is a $20 part but labor will probably run around $250... Call around local independent BMW shops.

Would you happen to have the part number for the axle seal?
