hey everyone,

planning on going to boston sometime mid october for 4 nights. what are the top places you guys recommend i visit? i am going with my girlfriend. also.. any recommendations on hotels? tips.. tricks?? haha thanks in advance!

If you're at all into baseball, it's worth going to a game at Fenway Park since it's such an iconic piece of baseball history. It's pricey and a hassle leaving and entering, but worth it if you haven't been. Copley Square is a nice piece of American history and has some great architecture. It's surrounded by various attractions as well as Copley Place shopping mall which is full of upscale shops. For the bar and restaurant scene, the waterfront district is worth checking out.

Since you're going in October, I would recommend venturing outside the city to take in the fall foliage. It's really the only positive weather-related thing we have going for us in New England.

I was thinking about catching a Red Sox game but the season will be over by then.. Also.. Are you not recommending visiting in October?

October is a fantastic time to visit ... the weather is perfect and the foliage is awesome

Depending on how far of a drive you want to take ... I'd head up to the White Mountains and drive the kanc ... you can make a stop in North Conway while your up there and take in sites ... while you're up there I would also suggest driving the Mount Washington Auto Road (if you aren't afraid of heights that is) ... grab lunch at Moat Mountain Brewing Company and get a flight of their delicious beer ... oh and on the way up you might as well stop and pick some apples at McKenzie's Farm

As for actually in Boston ... walk ... walk everywhere ... follow the Freedom Trail (http://www.thefreedomtrail.org/) ... it'll take you to all the historic stuff in the city

The Garage at Post Office Sq I find to be a nice central area to park (cheapest garage in the city after 5 and on the weekend, and it's centrally located ... well sort of: http://www.posquare.com/) ... hit up The Bell in Hand, Americas oldest tavern (http://bellinhand.com/) ... grab a cup of chowder from Union Oyster House right next store ... skip the rest of the food though ... definitely has a tourist tax on it

Head over to the North End and skip Mike's Pastries (unless you really enjoy waiting in line) and stop in Modern Pastry (http://www.modernpastry.com/) for a cannoli or something delicious

Take a walk through the Boston Common and see the State House ... you can head up to Beacon Hill and walk the streets a bit ... check out The Liberty Hotel (http://www.libertyhotel.com/), formerly the Charles Street Jail turned upscale hotel ... it's a cool place ... oh and The Paramount (http://www.paramountboston.com/beaconhill in Beacon Hill serves up a fantastic breakfast ... if you're there on the weekend be prepared to wait

Leaving Beacon Hill you can head West Southwest back across part of the common and into the Public Garden (http://www.cityofboston.gov/parks/em...lic_garden.asp) ... then either enjoy a nice shadey walk down Commonwealth Avenue and look at all the brownstones, or you can head down Newbury Street for some high end shopes, as well as delicious restaurants and ice cream stores

From there you can keep going further West Southwest down Boylston and head over to Fenway and catch the game or just enjoy the area ... Bleacher Bar (http://bleacherbarboston.com/) is a good spot as it's located under the green monster and you can actually see the field from inside the bar ... it'll be packed during a games though ... also of note before you go too far down Boylston (before you cross Mass Ave) there is The Pour House (http://www.pourhouseboston.com/) which has the best bloody mary in the city ... also McGreevy's (http://www.mcgreevysboston.com/) is a good spot ... home to The Dropkick Murphys since one of them owns it

So yeah ... lot's of stuff to do ... if there is anything specific you were interested in I'd be happy to help

How late in October? There's always the postseason...

And no, October is a great time to visit. The weather is typically mild and the foliage is beautiful. I was just jabbing at how our weather is often miserable (muggy rainy summers, cold snowy winters), so fall foliage season is really the only nice time we have!

There will be no fall ball in Fenway this year. The team is likely going to go from last, to world champions, to last. However, I hear the tour at Fenway is worthwhile.

The Seaport is very nice. If you want to grab a workout there are aome nice gyms around there as well.

Equinox is amazing. BSC is solid and cheap. There are some great boxing gyms as well as Boston has a pretty rich fighting history. Peter Welch's gym is kick ass and Sityotong has put many guys into the UFC.

If your not a gym freak like me check out all the attractions listed above. Best time of year for Boston is the fall!

Two restaurant recommendations that are on the high end:

O-ya for japanese (chef's tasting menu for 2 should run about $400 with tax and tip), near Downtown Crossing and South Station.

Menton for Italian/American, near the Fort Point Channel.
