Plasti-Dip Project - "True Metallic Anthracite"
Cut to the chase, whats it look like?? Final result:
The details: Wanted to share with this crew my recent plasti dip experiment. I've been very skeptical of doing this, but decided to pull the trigger and see how it came out... after all, i could just peel it off if i hated it. Long story short, i'm impressed, as i think it came out pretty damn good. Flat black kinda sucks IMO, so i ordered the "True Metallic Anthracite" kit from dipyourcar.com... For about 70 bucks shipped, i ended up with 4 cans of premixed, sprayable anthracite, 2 cans of "glossifier" and spray nozzle to make the job easier. Wheels were off the car, and tires were protected using the good old note card method. I applied as follows: Light coat #1, wait 15 min, light coat #2, wait 15 min, heavy coat #1, wait 30, heavy coat #2 wait 4 hours, Gloss coat #1, wait 30 min, Gloss coat #2, done. All in, 6 coats over the coarse of 1 day. While I was at it, figured i should probably do my grill and bumper mesh too: I feel like this came out good, is better than flat black, and gives the car a whole new look, and renewed my appreciation for these 189s (they also have 20MM spacers behind them too) Love em or hate em, feedback is welcome! |

Clean execution, especially the grilles, but not a fan on the wheels. Too dark that it could be confused with flat black, especially in low light. I am biased however, as I don't like dark wheels at all.

Yep, agreed... That was my fear- and it rings a bit true. I was hoping the glossifier would address that. I've got some left - maybe I'll throw a couple more gloss coats on it to see it I can de-flat it a bit more. Thanks for the feedback ! Grill came out money, looks like a factory finish even after two weeks on the car now. Maybe my "chrome" window trim is next. Plasti dip is easy to work with given enough patience and prep work.

If you want to do that same spray color, check out dipyourcar.com, click through to the "true metallic's" section and get the kit! i highly recommend the spray nozzle, makes the job waaaay easier. Instead of spraying with your finger, you use your hand to squeeze the trigger, and the real benefit is its easier to maneuver the can and spray start/stop points, (wrist can move side to side evenly when you hold it with the nozzle system) gives you nice even coats. best 7 bucks ive spent in a while for that little gem. |

Looks good, better than regular platidip for sure. I dipped my wheels and then painted and then cleared them on my other car. You can get any color you want that way and the clear makes it look like a professional job imo. Just a suggestion if you get bored and want to play around with colors. I can tell you exactly how to hit Takata green if you want.
I agree on that spray nozzel. I am never using a rattle can again without one.
