E90 330i non-direct injection re-map

Hi, I've just bought a 330i 2006 so the non-direct injection 258bhp engine. I'm looking in to remaps and a couple of the tuners I'm aware of (e.g. DMS) seem to claim to move it to around 280bhp but superchips only claim 270bhp. Does anyone know if this is some being a bit 'hopeful' or simply some have better maps than others? Is it normal to have a generic map or do some tuners tweak it specifically for your engine one a rolling road, or on the road?

My (admittedly limited) understanding is that with valvetronic a remap can effectively change the cam duration so could provide useful gains. I also find a little bit of dead travel in the top of travel of the throttle pedal and I wonder if a remap could resolve this?

Any light someone could throw on this most welcome
Doug
