Thought I'd be clever and take the battery negative off as this was suggested but the problem is still there. But the after market stereo which worked off the controls on the steering wheel now doesn't and I have window wipers.

Firstly, I'd get the codes read. This will tell you exactly what's wrong.
However, in the mean time: You've all the drive train lights so I'd start with a knackered battery Failing that, hydro pump. However, this is speculation so get the codes read |

Ok. What a hydro pump?
I've taken the battery off and checked the connections and tightened them, but that didn't work. Now the wipers don't work or the steering controls to the stereo |

It looks like your battery has not got good charge or has failed. I would charge the battery and retry starting. Or carefully take it on a drive to get some charge back in.

Ok. I will give that ago. I've noticed that the mileage isn't going up either lol. I've taken it a few miles to get the diagnostics checked and it didn't change!
Unfortunately the ecu won't let the diagnostics read the fault but did mention possibly battery not having enough power. But would that cause the steering controls and window wipers not to work and also the trip |

Battery could be plausible fault,if you have no iDrive what check control messages are in the Kombi?(use the light stalk buttons to cycle through.Does it say anything like 'central electronics failure')

Thinking exhausted battery, IBS fault, K CAN communication to instrument cluster and/or other control units.
To be fair could be anything but you've got to start with the basics and somehow get a handle on why they've appeared, not necessarily what they pedict, we see too many cars in with basic power related issues and the battery has a big hand in the initial fault. |
