I enquired about getting this retro fitted and was told that it would come to around £2000!

these are good screens fitted a set to the wifes old Zafira a while back the ones i had came with game controllers that also plug into the screen to play old NES games. And the DVD laser was a sony one. The only thing i would niggle about is on her car you had to put your heads right back to even feel the headrest as they are pretty flat.

But all in all and good budget setup.

There is no slot Sheps thats the scren hinge your seeing. To change discs the whole screen pops up a bit like the portable dvd players.

Sorry to bring up this old thread but did you use 10, 12 or 14mm inserts in the headrest?

I can't remember, i don't think I needed inserts with my kit, but they came in the box. I do remember I had to wrap the poles with insulating tape because they were rattling on something inside the seat.

Oh they are still going strong, both DVD work fine.

I'm wondering how easy it was to feed the cables from the chair to the console and how neat the result?

It's been a while, how are they doing? Still working? Glad you fitted them?

Off topic I know, but related to a previous comment about distance from head - my restraints don't adjust for distance... is that correct, or am I doing something wrong?

Simple. You need to adjust your neck/head position.

(sorry, couldn't resist )

Thought I'd share my experiences on this one...

I now have DVD headrests installed, pretty much like Tunna_UK's. I bought Xtrons HD903s from a company on eBay for £183 + £25 for 14mm poles. There are two main differences in my setup. Here they are:
  1. I have active restraint headrests because my car is post-Sept 2009. I removed these by chopping the connections inside the seat and grafting in 2.2 ohm resistors. It fools the car into thinking the original headrests are connected so I don't get a restraint system fault. I connected these with bullet connectors and added the same connections to the original headrests so they can be replaced in minutes with no tools.
  2. I connected mine to the cigarette lighters' switched live circuit inside the centre console so there's no damage to the inside of the arm rest and nothing hogging the power socket there. (I'm thinking of changing this to pick up a permanent live or at least one that doesn't require the car to be running so the kids can keep watching when we stop - I expected the lighter sockets to come on when I inserted the key but they need the car to be started).

..or at least for the ignition to be switched on. You can have the key in the ignition and the engine not running/switched off.

I found the same when trying to use a phone charger.. I kind of expected it to work without the key in the ignition!

I switched them to the permanent +12V at the back of the radio. Dismantling the console was fun. We've since been on a holiday to France (about 1800 miles in the car including Eurotunnel) and they worked a treat.

I bought iPads for my boys and I find they work a treat as they can not only browse the internet, read books play games etc. but it also keeps them quiet and no install required ;o)

But your install looks neat, very good work!
