N52 330i head bolt issue
Hey guys, I just wanted you all to know I had the common issue where the head bolt head snaps off due to over torquing at the factory. Apparently this is only common on the 06 models and was fixed the next year but BMW doesn't really notice it. The bolt was right under the oil filter housing.
Anyway, I got BMW to pay the bill out of warrenty. I'm at 70k miles. It took a lot of interaction with the local service adviser and BMWNA, but in the end they paid for it.

The one that is most common to snap is visible though, it's right under the oil filter housing. I will take a picture later to show you better. You can clearly see it. The hard part though is sometimes the head snaps off and will sit on the top end right next to it making it look like its actually good, but it's not.

I did my spark plugs this weekend and found my bottom left head bolt snapped. It was clear as day once I removed my engine cover, which can be done after removing the plastic cabin air filter frame. I still have a CPO warranty left and will be bringing this up with my service advisory right away!

i too have a 330i. i didnt know that it was a common issue among 330i's. im going to make sure i check mine out. i think it had one replaced under warranty from a previous owner. great info by the way. does anyone know of any other things i should look out for? my 330i has 66k miles, sports pack, premium pack, xenon adaptives, logic7, idrive, and is a steptronic. under warranty other than the head bolt it also had a steering angle sensor and starter motor replaced. im just out of warranty and decided to go without an extended one. from what ive read the 330i seems to be very reliable. im lookin to keep the car past 100k.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but i want to let the world know (or at least BMWNA) that the head bolts they used for 06 models were completely deficient. I had to have a bunch of them replaced at 70k which ofcourse meant me having to fork out $$ for a VCC and HG. I really think they should have had some goodwill since this is a typical issue with 330i e90s. this sort of thing really shouldnt happen so early in life of a $40k+ car.

i took my 06 325xi in for a valve cover gasket replacement as it was leaking oil. the tech broke one of the engine bolts while removing it. bmw dealership tried charging me an extra 1.5 hours labor at $155 an hour to fix their mistake, on top of the $850 job to replace the gasket.
