sport mode, paddle shifting during 1/4 mile?

Took my 08xi down the other night, DCI & OFT only, went 12.9@107 on 93 pump. pretty satisfied with that considering, but the transmission seems to "ignore" my request to short shift / upshift so it was shifting @ 7000 which probably hurt my run from 3rd on.

Do I need to defeat the kickdown switch? Driving around normally it responds quickly to upshift requests when not WOT.

Just don't push the pedal down past the kickdown point. Takes some practice, but you'll get it.

BMS sells the kickdown blocker which can come in handy for 1/4 mile runs. Taking the RPM's all the way to 7k will definitely hurt your times, but not by much.

it has to help some, by the time you're in 3rd past low 6000s there's just nothing there... it goes by fast enough to not hurt in 1st/2nd, i'll see if I can come off the kickdown point by the time I reach 3rd gear next time

If you have a Type-A you can just buy the rubber washers at Home Depot for half the price. I used the ones from the Toilet Bolt and Gasket Kit. I've had it now for just over 4 years and they work perfectly. But I do like Terry's solution. Just slips over the pin so you don't have to pop the peddle away from the pin to install it.

Plus BMS's is like $10 shipped. Expensive for a small piece of plastic but a cheap solution for people who have kickdown problems.
