Help needed tyre repair Melbourne
Hi guys,
Anyone know of a good tyre repair place? I live at caulfield and have a nail in my 4 month old Bridgestone rft. There's no warning signs on my display though but I think I should have it checked. Any advice anyone? |

The tyre guy said they can't repair my tyres as the nail is near the side. The recommended me to get hankook tyres but they're not run flats.

What are your other 3 run flats like? If they are near new then it might be better to buy 1 new RFT to match, rather than 4 new non run flat's. The tyre place could be trying to upsell.
Btw I ditched my run flats, and so have many others. The ride is much nicer. |

Well my tyres are all run flats and they're only 4mths old. Probably did only 3000km on them. The new run flat will cost me roughly $410 but a pair of non-run flats would cost me $520. The tyre guy was telling me that the hankook would last me 5years well the run flats would last me only 1.5years. He said Bridgestone run flats would start to crack under melbourne's weather while the hankook ones won't.

I wouldn't get a pair of non-RFT if you have the others as RFT. Get all 4 non-RFT if you go down that route. Non-RFT's handle differently because of the softer side walls.
E.g RFT rear/Non-RFT fronts would induce oversteer, or Non-RFT rear/RFT fronts would induce understeer. Seeing as you only have 3k km's on the other 3 tyres I would just get 1 new RFT of the same type and call it a day. Cracking in Melbourne weather?? I call BS on that. Hankook lasting 3 times longer than RFT's?? Not sure about that either... generally rears will wear out faster no matter what tyre you have (if you have staggered setup), and maybe RFT's wear out marginally quicker overall, but not 3 times... |

What kind of Melbourne weather cracks tyres??
Either the tyres are do not meet Australian standards, or otherwise they'll do just fine in Melbourne. |
