Help with car valuation

Hi I'm in need of some help valuing my car as I've been trying to determine a figure by looking at the usual online sites but there aren't many examples that are similar to mine as some are either higher mileage or newer or a a different spec trim which all obviously have an effect on price so it's throwing me off a little.

The car in question is a 2006 BMW e90 330i auto M Sport with very low mileage it's 34k but will have to double check the counter in the day.

Excellent condition. No I drive but not many came with it looking at the others In that range.

I've had it valued by the online sites and I've got from £9200-9800 but I'm not sure how accurate these are, and as said on autotrader and other sites it's hard because some examples are SE not M sport which is higher values and others will have much higher mileage so not sure what to do.

9800 is pretty high i'd say, but you do have low mileage. If your car is top spec you might get that.
Do you have...
Nav?
Leather?
Xenons?

It doesnt have many toys, only full leather and bluetooth/cruise and parking sensors which i think are all standard

So i appreciate it won't sit with the higher spec models but no idea where it would fit in

low miles are very hard to put a price on but i would price your low miles in line with a car with nav with abit more mileage

9k for a 330i on an 06 is very expensive!

i would price your car at 8500 - 9 if it had nav xenons auto leather mv3 with 34k

High spec = better resale value and/or better chance of sale.

I do appreciate that if people have no wiggle room on budget at all, then they might have to settle for a lower spec model, but if the money wasn't an issue, I can't see any other reason why you'd take one without the toys by choice.

Anyone who says they 'd chose one without things like Xenons and sat nav over one that has one if the price difference between the 2 vehicles is negligable or a few hundred quid is either lying or not right in the head.

More importantly - not everyone cares about very low mileage, to be fair.

Personally, a 2006 car with only 34k miles would worry me more than one with 70-80k.

I'd be wondering what fluids, bushes, gaskets and such like (basically anything rubber and perishable when it just sits around) might need changing.

It's nice to have one with slightly less than average mileage for sure, but one with VERY low mileage either means it's only ever done very short journeys (bad for any car), or has been stood around for months at a time (also bad for a car).

IMO, a very low mileage motor will definitely attract 2 types of people:

1) those that don't actually have a scooby about cars, and therefore don't have such considerations - they just see a very low mileage and think that is great, and the be all and end all.

2) car traders, that will try get it cheap, and flog it for more on the basis it has low mileage and will attract (1) above.

So you'll have no trouble selling it anyway - but in my experience over the years, with BMW's the price is dictated by the following (and in my opinion, order of importance):

a) Service history
b) specification
c) condition
d) mileage
e) number of owners

Spot on.

Everytime I buy the car, I tend to avoid one with extremely low mileages compared to its age. Those cars which are 50-70K may have dealt with some common issues on beamers compared to low mileages cars.

My brother in law belongs to the category 1 described above. When he buys cars, he tend to buy one with least miles and then encounter different issues. He bought 2010 Qashqai 2 with low miles and under warranty. He had issues with it and different dealers could not diagnose it (will you believe that). At the end he part exchanged it with another Japanese car. So lets see how far that goes.

Yeah, my old dear falls into category 1 as well.

She was looking for a BMW 318 Compact a few years back, I found some - including a Sport version with most options included (won't say "all", as otherwise there will be people on here asking me if it had a self cleaning handbrake handle or something, and if not the it didn't have "all" the options), was tidy and had about 50k on the clock.

She got hung up on an SE that had 20k on the clock, cloth interior and no options.

Bought that one

Then when she came to sell it (by this time it was still a late 2002 car with 2 owners and still less than 40k on the clock) was wondering why no-one was interested in it, and why the dealers she was going to looking at part ex were offering peanuts.

Anyway, she traded it in for a Honda Jazz....so that's really about as low as the situation can get.

On the topic of low milers, my mum has a Y reg E46 330ci vert. 34k I think? It has had an advisory on the brake pad thickness for the past few MOT's. Thats how far that car goes each year. I often wonder what the oil looks like. Molasses?

It's a lovely car and is perma garaged so the paintwork (bar the swirls) is in great condition, as is the roof. But its the kind if you bought it, you'd want to have a mechanic spend a day on it and have all the fluids changed because it has just so under used.
