V1 vs. Escort 9500i
Yes I read all the other threads...
Basically I used to dorm in college and I'm commuting this year. Well now for some reason, no matter when I leave, I always seem to barely make it to class or be late. I usually don't speed much (5-7 over), But now on some roads i do like 10-20 over since i'm late. Not much highway driving. Mostly 90% suburban/city commuting. I was set to get the V1. But now don't know if I should get the 9500i (cancel out false alarms). Since I drive mostly where there might be more false alarms. What do you guys think? Does the V1 have a lot of false alarms with all bands on? What if I turn off the x-band on the V1? |

There are 4 different settings on the valentine. You can turn off the X band. You will actually adapt yourself to the false alarms and have a better idea when theyre real alarms... At least I have.

If you want to get radar detector, V1 is the most popular and is what I got. To put it mildly, it's OK. For me, it's more a piece of mind... which could be more dangerous! Perhaps, I had unrealistic expectations. There's a location where a 5-0 camps all the time on the highway, but my V1 never goes off when I see him. I just shake my head at my V1 when that happens. |

Yea I'm not a speed demon. I tend to use my radar detector more for just being aware. I have a friend who got the 9500i, and he now does 30-40mph over on regular roads...in his sentra, even at night. The car is borderline unstable. But he's had it for a while and it always goes off whenever theres a cop. So he basically disregards speed limits on roads now. That's a little extreme. I'm not gonna start speeding more just cause I have a detector, just want something as a backup. If I get one ticket, I have to pay for it, and the insurance raise for like 3yrs or w/e. So that could easily be over $500.
But he keeps telling me that the V1 is old cause its been out forever and the hardware is dated. He told me to get the 9500i. I had my heart set on the V1 forever, so I'm probably going to end up getting that. And there are really only 2 days i usually speed a bit, which is when i have 8AM labs. Never again... Other 3 days class starts at 11. |

Actually now I'm considering a Bel 955. The Vector series all have the same basic range w/ different amount of features. 955 is the 940 w/ autoscan to reduce falses. It's $150 shipped. It should be good enough since I don't speed that much I think. Seeing as I'm a broke college kid, it's also good it's cheap. I'll buy a top-of-the-line radar detector in the future after I get a real job in about 12-13 yrs or so...

The Valentine One still beats all the other detectors in radar and laser detection. http://guysoflidar.com/august-2007/r...ctor-test.html http://guysoflidar.com/july-2007/off...ctor-test.html http://www.laserveil.com/laser-detector-performance/ http://www.laserveil.com/laser-detec...adar-detector/ http://www.laserveil.com/laser-detec...ice-laser-gun/ http://www.laserveil.com/laser-detec...adar-detector/ http://www.laserveil.com/laser-detec...ice-laser-gun/ There are big problems with the new Escort 9500i and the majority of people are returning them because of less range than the Valentine One and the 8500X50. They are locking out signals from door openers and the 9500i is not alerting to cops that shoot radar in that area. Owners of the 9500i are also complaining that signals that they lock out are not staying locked out from the day before. They also say that their Sirius/XM radio is cutting out because of the 9500i and its GPS function. http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=23027 http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=23178 http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=23183 http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=23036 http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=22800 http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...torder=asc&sta rt=0 http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=22824 http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=22762 http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=22803 Are you satisfied with your 9500i or returning it?Satisfied with 38% [ 21 ]Returning 61% [ 34 ]Total Votes : 55 |

I picked up a 940 (sale for $125 at CC) and couldn't be more pleased with it. Very few false alarms even near stores and it picked out all the cops long before I saw them for the last 2 days. I'm gonna use this for now and speed a little less. Then when I save up more money I'll get the V1.
