Window goes up and down whenever it feels like it
As I'm driving the other day, my passenger side front window just started making erratic up and down movements on. It's own. Anyone have an idea what this could be? All I can imagine is a faulty window switch.

This is either the switch itself, or the door sensor that opens and closes the window when the door is opened.

You have to reset the window. There is a DIY on this.

Just replaced the driver side window switch and the passenger window is still acting up. I hold the passenger window switch down until the window is down, then it goes right back up by itself. I'll look for the window reset DIY and report back.

I initialized the window with the scan tool and it still acts funky, but only from the passenger switch. It works fine from the drriver's switch. I also activated the window up and down with the scan tool and it works fine. Only thing I can think of is passenger switch.

I tried all of that, replacing the switches, initializing or reseting it and it still messed up. Took my car to a bmw repair shop (not a BMW dealership) and after having it for a day, yes over night, they told me it was a short being made by the footwell module and that it was going to be 1,200.00 to have it fixed. No way jose! So I said no go to the repair, ended up paying 400.00 for the check up. This shop is a joke and I'm taking it to a dealership today or monday to have it checked. I dont think its the footwell module. Has anybody figure it out yet???

You should look for water. The footwell module can be flooded when the rain gutters get clogged and that would cause all sorts of wreakhavoc in the electric system.

Same problem here. I have disconnected both switch (now I can't up or down the window) and while the switches were disconnected the windows started to go up and down on its own.
I have tried to disconnect the battery and left the car a couple of hours before connected it again, and nothing.. the windows is still moving when it wants. I have been told to restart/reprogram the car's software (on the BMW dealership, I'll have to pay for it even it doesn't work...) and if that doesn't work they told me the only solution was changing the footwear module. So, how did you solve the problem guys? Did they change that module or something? Thank you very much! and as it's my first message, hello everyone! tl;dr: How did you solve the window's problem? |

somewhat off topic, but another example of my annoyances with BMW's electronics.
So many weird dependencies built into something as simple as a window switch. Mine is behaving erratically because (I believe) the driver side mirror motor may be faulty. So, if I can manage to get a window down, the driver side main switches won't allow me to control any of the other windows, unless I depress the mirror fold in switch. (The driver side mirror motor won't fold all the way in) |

I replaced the window switch as suggested and I am delighted to say the window is working perfectly now. Your advice is much appreciated, Thanks.
