Considering 6 injectors cost around $2800, the DDE runs $1500 and the CBU cleaning from a dealer can run $1000. I'd say it's slightly cheaper to get the warranty. The CBU will happen. I drive like a dick and had a JBD for a while. My car got CBU around 72,000 miles.
Think we need a Suffolk meet to talk about all the emissions bs and Beast stories.
Yeah buddy I am down to meet up when ever you would like. PM me.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but you can buy the BMW warranty from any dealership in North America. Sometimes it's as much as $800 difference in the warranty price from different dealers. This warranty will be honored at any BMW dealership.

I am just worried about laying out stupid money down the road for something that breaks and then wonder why I didn't just get the warranty. And from what I am told the Carbon Build Up isn't a warranty covered item. It's a Service item that we need to still pay for.
Strange did the dealership tell you that? Because I was told that a while back when my injectors were faulting. I asked about CBU and they said nope sorry 1200$ if you want it now. Told them nope just the injectors. Then 1 month later SES light and boom CBU cleaning for freeeeeeee well 50$ deductible of course. It depends on the dealership but it has to follow a repair order SES to Injectors, swap injectors then SES again to CBU on the next list. All the way down to DDE each SES must contain the same fault code for example Injector Zero Cylinder number 4. Heres a similar order from a while back by an old member I dont think he around but his repair order is the same as most of us and other users and such.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=778979

This is what you may see between 50-100k(note this was before CBU procedure) so the process to a DDE is a bit longer. Ill post my service history if you'd like.

From personal experience at 54k like i said I got all six injectors, CBU cleaning and Urea Tank. Total cost waaaaaaaay more than what i paid for warranty. Its a huge chunk of upfront change but saves you a massive hassle down the line. Plus you get loaners and such so you dont have to worry about being stuck without a car. Just be sure you purchase it from BMW. Like i said give Jeff a try from passport or go right ahead with your dealership but be sure its Gold Protection. For the record I had JBD at 80-90% for about 10k and slammed the pedal for much of its life up and off ramps and corners that allowed lol, couple pulls here and there and limiter cruising at 135mph. So I know your worry about laying down a chunk o change. I was on the same boat and jumped for the warranty.

As you know BMWs aint cheap to maintain or repair. Got an e46 M3 sitting for months due to a vanos issue and transmission problem. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for it to run again oh how i do miss her. Anyways just think it through and good luck everyone here is here to help! Keep us updated.

Side note make friends at the dealership. The one that treats you the best if your SA gives you a hard time find another. Each one is different but each one does also approve your repair work. They will try to fight you along the way but be persistent especially if you have proof. I suggest investing like most of us have in an OBD reader with code clear(or BMWhat app). So you know in advance if its worth it to take it in for example you do get the warranty and the code for the cylinder comes up reset it once if it comes up again take it in. That way you confirm and they can confirm the issue then you drive around in a crap start stop loaner for a bit lol or a 328d.

I recently moved to a new location. It has two BMW dealerships. I picked one and had my last service done a month or two ago. Wasn't all that happy with the vibes I got from the SA, so was planning to try the other one. Another BMW owner recommended the other one. Anyway, the one I am less thrilled with called me yesterday to interest me in the extended plan(s). That was because I have 40k miles and they know it. So I suppose I will talk to that sales guy first and then chat with the other one. At the same time I need to find a good local indy that knows something about serious suspension work and also if lucky something about diesel engines.

See if you can get it in the the finance manager. Theyre the onlys who actually give the price. You know when you buy a car and they say let me check with my manager? Well thats him/her.

Hey guys, don't mean to hijack the thread but I also have a relevant concern.

I just got a 2011 335d, 38k miles, few month left on the warranty and it's at the dealer right now for throwing a Cyl.2 injector code and rough idle. Sweet irony, I got this car after driving a 545i for the past 5 years which developed some rough idle and after investing a lot of $$ and energy into it just decided to switch things up.

So to the point, I'm definitely planning on modding the car, downpipe and a tune+Egr delete, at the least, just gotta convince the wife (wink).

The main question is: With the fore mentioned modifications is the Gold Warranty going to be plausible? Or will bmw just throw a towel at my face next time an injector or the DDE fails??? Btw I diy just about everything, had done an e30 restoration with s52 swap just from reading the forums, so getting my hands dirty isn't an issue, it's the parts costs that I'm worried about.

In retrospect, if you had to, pulling a head off the m57 wouldn't be much different than doing it on a s52b32US? And then taking it to a machine shop for cleaning and what not?

I had all my CBU problems covered under warranty. They replace my intake, MAF, EGR valve and cooler, swirl flaps, and walnut blasted my head. I could only imagine what all of that would have cost.

Ok so I bought the warranty to be safe than sorry. I did the 3 year Gold warranty which covers me until 100k. And Jeff Steel at Passport BMW in MD said it doesn't matter what state you live in the warranty is honored anywhere. And he discounts the numbers for the forum members. Send him an email if you would like. jeff.steel@passportauto.com

Good stuff. Welcome to the safety crew lol. We can join Tdi and the rest in a few when the warranty is up. Keep us updated and time for some JBD fun.

Take that girl back and strap yourself in a loaner! Were going for a ride! Do it now since its still under Original haha, you dont have to use the deductible. Then use that 50$ you just saved and get an OBDII reader or blue-tooth stuff that can clear codes. That way you can determine the next time if you need to take it in. Just make sure you can reproduce the code. For example if youre getting injector zero stuff reset it once and see if it comes back. If it does youre on the golden boat. If not then you saved yourself 50$ because they will do the same at the dealership.

What's a good code reader to get. The one that came with the JBD chip just clears it and I can't be bothered trying to decode them..

And in case anyone else was on the fence of buying the warranty, since a whole bunch of people said the Fuel Injectors need to be replaced at some point I asked the parts department this morning at BMW how much do they cost each.. $556 per fuel injector. So there is your 3300 bucks just in parts plus labor to change them. So glad I bought the warranty because if these do get changed I feel better its on the arm at that point.

I dont know if they were trying to scare you and not that it really makes a difference for now, but injectors can be had for $400. Over the course of 6 injectors that $156 makes a big difference. They can also be cleaned/repaired for cheaper.

Whats wrong with the JBD code reader? Its pretty easy to use, it gives you an actual BMW code so there is nothing to decode. The only downside would be if you cant find the definition online. If you have a smartphone you can get a bluetooth OBD reader which would probably be your best bet for simplicity and quick feedback
