Performance Testing

I got thinking about this after achu said he was going to do some tests on his airbox mod and the talk about improved performance following valve cleaning.

I will shortly have a JB4 in my possession so added another dimension to my thoughts.

So I'm going to try and get some times recorded before I fit the JB4, compare the maps and then post valve cleaning.

I put this together.....

Now it will need to be conducted on a private drive or runway due to the speed in the second test

Will also need a passenger and keep the variables such as weather and fuel level as consistent as possible but could be quite an interesting research project if a few of us do it! Get enough results and will act as a decent benchmark.

Any ideas for a third run that will be a good test? I avoided 0-60 as its hard to be consistent....

You can still run this tests with the JB4 installed by setting it to map 0 or map4 (off with monitoring).

You can record your dash with a cam but the speedo over compensates speed. You would really need a gps.

Each time you do a run the heat will build up in the engine bay and will impact performance.

The logging on the JB4 shows you what you need to know. Boost the car wants to use i.e. 7 PSI, boost the JB4 actually uses, i.e. 16PSI.

It's always fun to do some testing though.

Ok cool that's very interesting!

I thought there would be quite a few inconsistencies but if I kept my "tests" as similar as possible I'd get a feel for the improvements....

With that changed air intake system monitor maf before and after, I think it'll have done very little and will be a placebo.

As long as you repeat everything with as few variables as possible you'll get some good info.

Here's what JB4 logs look like in Excel.
