Audio system for my standard BMW e90
Hi, I have recently bought and 2008 BMW 320d e90 which came with the M-ASK iDrive and base audio system that I totally hate! I had previously had an 1.4 Seat Leon which had better sound system then my current car that is 4 times the value.
I have been reading all the threads with the builds for days but decided to open up a new topic as this is an important subject for me. Anyway, my audio system is the base one with only 4 speakers (2 at front, 2 at the deck) and 2 under seats. I have done some sound deading on the door panels and door cards with some acoustic foam on the doors. I don't think I have an amp in that system. I was considering different routes like upgrading to hi-fi or top hi-fi/L7 but from reading a lot of comments, it seems that for my demands hi-fi wouldn't do it and L7 is a lot of work with big prices, that don't really give you as much. I also looked at the BSV Stage 1 upgrade but I don't think its worth that much money for that little you can do with it. I've purchased the JL AUDIO CLEANSWEEP CL441dsp, and I have 2 amps to use. One is zapco 4 channel, other is some other not as good brand but 6 channel. I want to buy front 4" mid-ranges + new tweeters. Im thinking of Focal IFBMW-S or MOREL DOTECH MKII. Which one do you recommend? To that I want to buy rear deck speakers but Im not sure which ones. Advice? Last edited by Kali; 11-02-2014 at 03:48 PM.. |

Morels but they have a replacement for the Dotech
Morels but they have a replacement for the Dotech.
I think it the virtus 402. They don't make that model anymore. Why because Morels aren't as Harsh and they play lower. Or a Gladen extreme kit . They are very popular in Europe. Don't spend a lot on rear speakers they don't contribute that much. You could use the Zapco and get Technic 4/2 harness. these guys have some pretty good deals http://www.monsteraudiodesign.co.uk/ Last edited by ctuna; 11-03-2014 at 03:16 AM.. |

Is the center speaker that people install is any good and worth investing as speaking with someone experienced in audio systems, they claim that the center speaker is a no-no for decent audio as sound system doesnt need 5:1 as its not a movie. Is that correct? Also, where and how can I acquire the Technic harness and how does it connect with the rest? As I got the JL cleansweep processor that connects to the iDrive unit? then to the amp and all the speakers go back to the processor or the amp? Thanks, Damian |

If you had a base system you have no wiring.
If you had a base system you have no wiring that extends to the trunk.
Which is where you want to put the amp or amps . The Technic Harness does that and interfaces with what wiring you have without having to cut anything. There are a couple of different types (I think) of harness one that just run enough wiring for the front speakers to be amped and I am not sure if he makes one for amps to all speakers. You need to send Technic a Pm at this forum if you want one. He has shipped to Europe before. |

Also, does anyone know the colour of cables for different speakers? (front mainly, but be good to know the rear as well) At worst case scenario I will cut. Thanks. |
