While I normally tell people to go back to stock before taking their car into the dealership... They truly do not give two rats asses about having an intake on your car.

It's in. And let me tell you what, there will never be another intake on my car in it's lifetime. It was THAT bad.
I was heating, soaping, stretching, pulling, YOU NAME IT..to get that damn hose coupling back on. FINALLY, after heating it up for a good minute I got it on. @ stimpy: you are still taking a chance...and God forbid something with my turbos/intake goes wrong...they might have a record that I had DCI's on and use it against me. I can't take that chance. BTW...the microfilter was a pain to reinstall as well....I know I fucked it up because the alignment seemed off. I got to get that replaced anyway so I'll just tell them. |

Oh man, this thread saved my life. I couldn't get the two hoses over the airbox tubes at all, until I read the hair dryer trick. Two minutes of high heat each, and they slipped on very easily.
Thanks for the tip!! |

100% agreed! Oh, man! I had the day off and set up a service appointment for 11am, thinking I've got plenty of time in the morning to remove everything and have it back to stock condition before my service appointment. I hadn't driven my car since the day prior, so everything was cold... that's what my major problem was. I saved the air intake swap for last and I know I've done it once or twice before and although it was a pain in the ass and I got at least one cut on my hand, it wasn't nearly as bad as this time. Everything else was fairly simple, but when it came to the part of getting the hoses on the 2 intake ducts for the air cleaner unit, I just couldn't get them to slide on, like I remember from the past. I tried everything (except the hair dryer) and I ended up getting 3 different cuts on my hands! I eventually called the service center and told them I would be late and then called to just cancel so I can reschedule for another week. Once I found this thread and used the hair dryer, it slid right on with no hassle and I put everything back together. The only other thing is that one of the clips that hold the air box together popped off and fell into the engine area and dissapeared. There's still a good seal, so I'm not too worried. I'll buy a new clip at the parts department. I'm sure it's just bouncing around at the bottom of the plastic panels.

This is a old thread but worth the bump! I just fought putting my stock airbox on after having DCIs on. Used a hairdryer to heat each hose up for about 90 seconds each and then they slid on most of the way. Applied a little more heat and they popped right on all the way! I fought with these for about 30 minutes with no heat and there was no way they were going back on. Glad this thread was here via search! Thanks again

I just had some injectors replaced, as well as a coil under my CPO. I have a BMS DCI, which I left on. Other than it was noted on the service receipt that customer has aftermarket cold air intake, they did not say one word about it. It looks like a pain to put the stock box back on, especially in the cold.
