Hey guys,

Debating on wheels for the car. Its an alpine white 2008 335xi coupe. I will not be lowering it at all so it will be stock height (would like to but our driveway is extremely steep and even now it only clears by about 1 inch)

Anyways I was thinking of:

1. Avantgarde M359 19x9 fronts, 19x10 rear hypersilver

2. VMR 710 19x8.5 front, 19x9.5 rear. hypersilver or gunmetal?

3. Forgestar F14

I want to keep price down so these seemed like good choices. I'm a bit worried at stock height aftermarket wheels may look tacky on the XI since the wheel gap is huge especially up front. My other option is to stick with my 189s and just get new tires?

I'm leaning towards the Avantgardes since they look more stock and also come in wider sizes which i prefer

What would you recommend for wheels? could i go 245 and 275 tires or stick with 235 and 265 rear?

Any of the above. Suck it up, lower it, and get some 2x4's so you can get up your driveway.

Buddy has 710s; look great in person. Another buddy has the F14s, but I won't see them until this coming Sunday. Both are xi's.

Lol the 2 x4 will not work. trust me. Its steep even getting into the garage once you get up the hill. Its literally a 45 degree incline to a flat driveway up top. My G35 stock would bottom out at the top of the driveway before getting into the garage.

Ever thought of Apex wheels? These (pic on grass) are 18" on my car. 245 and 275 on a stock height xdrive. I had AGs for a while but they bent relatively easy for me. These wheels feel stronger and hold really well. Just a thought. I'll share another pic with the AG 359's just cause.

I would go with either the 710's or Forgestar's in gunmetal. I'm a big fan of gunmetal on AW.

19's on stock suspension is going to look weird. This is how my e92 with 19's looked right before I lowered it:

thanks for the replies so far! I was going to buy the VMR 710 but then heard that the quality is not the best and they tend to bend. I also looked up some older threads on here and someone was mentioning that the AG 359 are slightly better quality than the VMR (something to do with pressure casting process)??

one thing I still don't understand is alot of people have the same size tires on a 19x10 and 19x9.5 rear wheel? 265/30/19? so will both wheel/tire combo look the same width on the car?

KME - thanks for the suggestion. I have thought about the apex wheels as well, but I think they are not as concave? from what I can tell in the pics I've seen anyways...

Do you guys think that gunmetal rims on white would make the wheel gap more noticeable? Or silver which blends in more with the AW color?

A 265/30/19 tire is recommended for a 9-10" width wheel so that's why you see people running that size on a 19x10 and 19x9.5 wheel. I run a 265/30/19 on a 9" width wheel and think it fits really well. The wider the wheel you get, the more stretch you're going to have on the tire. The more stretch you have the less curb protection you're going to have on the wheel. Also, the more stretch you have the rougher the ride tends to be. This is an extreme example of a stretched tire, but hopefully you get the idea:



I think a gunmetal wheel on an AW exterior would give the appearance of a smaller wheel gap compared to silver. That's just my opinion though.

Went back to the thread to remind myself.

I was going to purchase the avantgarde m359s but their cost is a bit too much up here in Canada. Forgestar also. I want to stay away from VMR

What do you guys think of these rims? niche targa m129 19s made by MHT. I'm thinking either these or stick with my stock 189s but I think I want a different look.

I think aftermarket wheels with stock height usually looks bad. I would lower and scrape in the driveway, stick with OEM style wheels or go all out with airbags to lift up for the driveway.

Keep in mind those wide rears will make your car under-steer, consider the stock 225/255 setup.

Why are you against VMRs? I have the 713s in hypersilver and love them. This is at stock ride height with 8.5x19 ET35, 235/35ZR19 Michellin Pilot Sports, 9.5x19 ET33 with 265/30ZR19 Michellin Pilot Sports

heard the VMRs tend to bend. The niche targa are made by MHT and better quality from what I've heard. I just don't want bent rims in case of potholes etc.

I've been running my 18" VMR's year round in the Northeast for 5 years now, they've been awesome. VMR now has a flow formed wheel v810 that is stronger than their cast wheel. Or, if you're really against VMR, Apex wheels are awesome and are flow formed as well.

As with anything in life, you get what you pay for. If you're only going to spend under a grand for wheels, you can't expect them to be the best wheel ever made.

I totally agree. I got mine on CL for $500 with Michelin pilots. They have exceeded my expectations and I have winter beater rims with snow tires.
