First Track Day at VIR
I plan to attend my first Track Daze event in November. I have scheduled a track inspection at GMP performance in a couple weeks. They are charging $100 for inspection?
I am okay paying for their time but curious what experienced peoples thoughts are on this fee? I knew things would add up and be pretty expensive but...

$100 for an hour labor is reasonable.
Does that club have any sponsors that will inspect it for free? I know with the local cca chapter there are a few shops that do a novice inspection for free.

$100 is steep if you ask me. In my region, it is mostly just self inspection, which involves checking all suspension bushings, brake pads/fluids, any obvious sign of leakage on the engine gaskets and power steering system.
I can just do all of that on a ramp in under 15 mins...

Next advise I need is breaking in my new track brake pads. I have the Performance Friction 08 compound both front and rear. I have cross drilled and slotted rotors that are in great shape but want to make sure I break the pads in correctly before getting on the track.
Advise please.

You don't need to break in performance friction pads. Put them on a few days before the event so they can clean off the rotors. Take it easy in the first season or two and they should be good to go.
Would recommend getting rotors without cross drilled holes. Rotors form micro cracks from thermal stress if you are fast enough, and those cross drilled holes serve as stress propagators. Don't forget to get some fresh brake fluid in each caliper too. |

Perfect thank you. I did throw in some high temp brake fluid over the weekend also from PFC. I should have ordered blank rotors but just ran out of time and $. As it is my first track day I plan to take both days on the easier side.

Just finished my first track (2days) at VIR. Had a lot of fun but not for the faint hearted or those on a budget.
Would like to get some feedback and assistance on some issues I had. 1st - on my 3rd session after 3 laps the car shook violently under braking. And got so bad I had to come off the track. It was not abs. Went out again in 4th session and first 3 laps no problem 4th lap violent shaking had to come off again. That night we put new rotors on and broke them in proper. Day 2 was much better made it through all sessions. Still felt like I was getting some abnormal vibrations by the end of the day. Brake pads are performance friction carbon metalic 08 compound all around. High temp motul fluid and I had an alignment done 4 days prior. 2 nd- my suspension is making unusual noises over small bumps. Sounds clangy or metal on metal. Big bumps no problem. No noticeable handling differences but deffinatly unusual noise from front suspension mostly driver side. (BC racing coilovers) Most likely end up taking it in for a look but thought I would reach out to community for assistance. |

Brake issue sounds like warped brakes.

That was first instinct but first few laps hard braking no vibrations then it gradually got worse. Cooled down and went away. One guy thought maybe there was some glazing or pad material on the rotors from previous pads and new pad material didn't like that. When we changed the rotors the wheels did not spin as freely as I would have thought.

OE pads prior. But even with brand new rotors they started to vibrate a little at the end of the day.

Check your runoff, it might be a dirty hub that prevents the rotors from running true.
