RPM's go up to 4000 only

Need some smart head from here, I was just sitting in my driving after drive and placed the car in neutral. Accidentally while reaching for my things behind i pressed hard on the gas, at this time I noticed that RPM will not go beyond 4000 revolutions per min. Is that normal when car is parked?? I didn't have the time to go for another drive to see what happens while driving but figured out I might just as well ask someone who has D for longer than me I just had my engine replaced by the dealer and not sure if this limit to 4000 rpm while in neutral is normal or something to do with engine work. Please help.

Someone with experience maybe can reply, but FWIW its not unusual for the rev limit to be lower in park or neutral on newer cars

I knew about RPM limits but that is usually at the red line but 4000 is a bit odd in my opinion. Hopefully someone on here will have some good knowledge about it and solve my puzzle

In plenty of vehicles its just a bit lower than when in gear. New camaros, for instance, rev limit at 4000 when in park or neutral, but 6200 in gear

my D is 2009. I will take the car after work for a spin and see if in the gear it will pass the 4000 without hesitation

Tis normal. Its done in most cars now for protection reasons. Heck in the e46 M3 theres a rev limiter when the car is neutral or park. So nothing to worry about.

Normal - good thing in case the driver is unconscious - things could get warm.

Thank you all, it seams like a normal thing, after work drove the car and when I knew it is ready I pushed it hard. No problem going above 4000.
