some car communities think of "stock motors" as no internal work - ie bottom-end work etc. the supra community is notorious for this. you'll see posts like "i made 800whp on the stock motor", which is true if you're talking about the bottom end, but really they are single-turbo kitted supras which incorporates a massive single turbo, turboback exhaust, fmic, intake, tuning, fuel system etc.

yep thats a huge factor.....but as boostin was saying, it just a culture difference. Coming from a suby community, i characterized it with stock. My mistake.

They are talking stock internals.

OC 335i thought APac_555 meant no modifications whatsoever on the 335i to get 400whp, whereas shiv has a procede and catback. APac_555 meant he had no internal work or bolt-on ENGINE mods such as an intake. (catback is not an engine mod, but an exhaust mod).

I find it comical that all im trying to do is help the BMW community and i just get flamed. If i never raised a question, shiv would have never shared the facts. Yes i was wrong about the dips not being det. (mainly because not all the information was given ie boost curves, a/f ratios, SAE unsmoothed dyno data)

But what if it really was det? It probably would have been brushed under the carpet....The "wow a BMW with 400whp bandwagon" people are too busy filling this thread with 17 pages of nonsense.

Am i wrong in asking respectable questions on the posted dyno curve? It seems it would have been better for me not to open my mouth at all.

It is an amazing feat for Shiv to hit 400whp on his dyno with a stock 335....it really makes me think more and more about the n54 engine. Now if he can iron out his curves to produce a more smooth power delivery (which im confident he can, maybe not now but later down in development) i would be completely satisfied. I am not as satisfied with the posted curves, thus my questions.....

Im out like a fat bicth in dodgeball.
Hey, I'm not flaming. I'm just trying to say that unless you know for sure that's the deal don't state your opinion as "fact" or insinuate not all the "facts" are being presented. It's shit like that that hurts people's reputations and in a business like this it's pretty much all these guys have.

It's not that you aren't asking legitimate questions it's the way you are posing them. As if Shiv was trying to hide something by not presenting all the info or that the tune was unsafe because it was detonating or looked that way to you at least. Then after I told you what was causing the dips you dispute it and keep going on with the detonation thing as if I have no idea wtf I'm talking about. Then when Shiv states the info I provided earlier again you act like you got to the bottom of something and we should owe you something.

Wow way to be.

I never said anything to hurt Vishnu's business, in fact in every post i said something positive about them. I never insinuated that Shiv was trying to hide anything. I just wanted more information....maybe thats my nature as my occupation is an analytial scientist.

Yes i still want to see the unsmoothed data, i think all infomation should be presented unfiltered. Do you think that because i asked for the raw data, i think Shiv has something to hide? What if he does?? (I can has Naive?). I wouldnt risk an expensive engine....

I was merely asking the causes about incontinuos powerband (dips in the whp/wtq lines). I presumed that they were knock, but when Shiv chimed in; i retracted my statement. Am i 100% sure? Not until i see the data

You know what i think? I think that the reason that powerband is so inconsistant is b/c of the capability limitations of the present ecu hardware/software of not just Vishnu but the whole market for the 335. I want to see a reflash tool (similar to what we have in the suby/evo community) be applied n54.

I love how the interwebs makes me feel so warm inside, it really connects us as fellow americans

Grow up dude. I'm not trying to make this personal or be a dick so, quit with "way to be" BS and "I can has" crap. This isn't NASIOC.

All I was pointing out is that all it takes is someone skimming this thread to see a post saying dips=detonation and the insinuation that someone is manipulating the flow of information to suite them and all kinds of shit gets stirred up.

If you want to see more data just ask to see it. Don't say shit like

How the hell would you know the facts? Were you there? How do you know what Shiv would and wouldn't tell us? If you are an analytical scientist you should know the difference between theory and fact.

I would say more because we have reached the limits of the stock turbos but, you might be right as well. IDK.

Understood. basically, everyone is on stock internals anyways with bolts ons here.

Raise your hands if you're not (forge pistons, cranks, rods, etc... HG, headwork, etc)...

I think we are going to have to wait until people start hurting their motors to see much of that stuff. Technology is a blessing and a curse. Ripping into one of these motors isn't quite as straight forward (or cheap) as say a LS_, 4G63, or B series motor. Things like Vanos and DI kind of limit how far into this motor you can realistically go. For now at least...

i would just love to see a cheaply priced (yeh i said cheap) single turbo kit that would get us to 450whp with just supporting mods (fmic, turboback, fuel). oh yeh and i would love to see if the N54 could support 450whp on stock internals.

those 2JZ guys don't know how lucky they are...

At understand, this isn't the only auto community I have been a part of. At this point in time, aftermarket internals haven't really been used it. It's not relative to the N54 at this point IMO.

I'll raise my hand, I know for sure that I have a forged steel crankshaft and so does every other 335 but I'll admit I don't know how many other parts are not forged. Until I know for sure I won't say they're forged and I won't say they're not forged, I'll say that I don't know.

Nice guys, I knew this would happen, but never thought so soon.

Wow you guys are making me work harder

Very impressive, looking to see you push the limits

Would love to see some dyno video clips.
