Try Duracel Batteries they are good. You can find them close to registers inside grocery stores...


On a serious note, just locate the part# and you can get it at any Auto part store. Or if you want to go OEM dealership may be the option but will be pricey. Unles you install it yourself. Make sure you register battery and code it if necessary. Just got to an indy shop, will be much cheaper.

+1. Get OEM and find someone local to code it for you. Coding takes a few minutes.

Mine was $190 at the dealer for OEM. I didn't think that was unreasonable at all.
They charged $160 for installation & to register/code it.

Or you can register it yourself if you get the BMW Logger software (free) and a cable (like $20 or something?).

Bavaria Motors in Markham just quoted me $190+tax installed for a new battery. Also said that e90's don't require coding. Thats the 2nd shop to tell me that. Is this true?

Doesn't need coding if the specifications are similar to the old battery.. It'll need to be registered though.

E90 Does have to be coded/register.

I got my new AGM battery install and register at RMP Motors.

I pay $250 total!

They have the tool to register and give warranty.

Using the bmw logger tool + OBD cable it takes 10 seconds to do. It resets the adaptation for the car to charge the new battery fully...

Because the car has adapted to the old battery which was dying limiting its charge so it would not charge fully.

I replaced my battery last year with a non OEM one it was some other brand that I bought from a car parts store somewhere in Bellingham.. works just fine. I paid about $160

My understanding of coding vs registering a battery:
Your car charges your battery differently based on how old it is, what capacity it started with, and how it performs (possibly other parameters too, but you get the idea). Not just plug'n'play - it's "smart" charging.

When you put in a new battery that is the same specs as the one you took out you just need to REGISTER it - this tells the car that the battery is new, and should be charged accordingly.

When you put in a new battery that is different in some way than the one you took out (different capacity, AGM instead of lead acid, etc,.) you need to CODE the battery so your car knows the new specs.

Registering can be easily done using the free BMW Logger software and a $20 cable.
Coding requires using more advanced software (NCS Expert), and involves the risk of fucking up your car if you don't know what you're doing and overwrite code in the car's computer that you shouldn't have.
