losing the love for the car , 335d no boost!

hi all !

Beginning to fall out with my 335d .I have had it about 3 months now , and I treated it to a new forge boost hose (which then failed last month) so splashed out on a new BMW item and a dpf bin and remap from ecotune , and now the latest issue is I have no power , it’s a weird one. Turn the car on and you have nothing until 3k and then it takes off at normal rocket pace! Lift off and go back on the power and boom , flat as a pancake. No power (as in boost) , other than lack of boost , it drives fine and will hop up to 100 (not like the car is in limp mode)

So plugged the computer in and getting a fault code 4180 - Boost Pressure Actuator – Short Circuit to B+

Cleared it , and it comes right back

Now I had a look about the engine back and tried to remove the pressure converter valves and my god that bracket is a pig to get off , stopped ¾ of the way as it started to rain and was now pitch black and since I had no replacement parts I figured there wasn’t much I could do anyway.

Just wondering if it is likely to be the boost converters, car has done 65k and I don’t think they have been changed by the look of it
Im going to replace both and all the vacuum hoses aswell while im at it

Been reading that it could be the actuator? but would that throw up a fault code?

Any help would be appreciated as to where to get the parts as well (as read they now need a new bracket) so don’t want to go on ebay and buy 2 valves to find they don’t fit or I should of bought a new bracket aswell

Thanks!

I've read of your exact issue being a boost converter/actuator issue, so sounds like you're on the right track.

I've read the same: turbo actuator. Also, I've noticed it always seems to be the UK cars having the issue.

When you say turbo actuators do you mean the electronic Amal valves or the pressure operated actuator that works the wastegate?

I wouldn't worry about actuators just yet, your ecu is telling you that it has an electrical problem in the circuit. Converter (solenoid) should do the trick.....

Its usually the electric solenoids (valves) that fail.

Sorry, I meant the parts that you got, as indicated by this thread:

I'm actually going to be replacing these within the week myself.
