Axel i think you are worried a bit too much just import it then you will tear your head apart about how to drive it legally on US roads and im sure its possible . US soldiers bring their cars to germany or poland or whatever other base in EU and after couple of modifications they are street legal

its just the engine that would be an issue. For the D3, you would have had to effectively revert it to a standard 335D engine and tune in order to get it registered. For the D4, there is no equivalent US model that has been cleared with the EPA, so I guess you would have to revert it to a 328d in order to get it cleared. The alternative would be to buy a wrecked (but not salvage titled) 328d and just make the 328d disappear and put the vin plates and license plates on the D4. Still very much not legal, but I bet you would get away with it no problem.

Eventually you should see the disappearance of egr systems due to the fact they are outdated and the dpf, scr, emissions systems are already providing the service. Drop in compression and possibly infinite valve timing and intake timing, will do wonderful things for power and emissions.
People say they dont make em like they used to... yeah thank god!
My bmw diesel can out brake out handle and out accelerate pretty much every bone stock muscle car on the street/track from the 60,70's and destroys most cars it lines up bumpers to on the street including other bmw's from the same year.

Sorry for the rant..

I thought about your answer for a minute, then I chose to be a bit more gentle with my answer. Keep on dreaming.

hooper hit the nail. Arthur the problem is that although its basically the same N57/M57 engine IT WILL NOT be authorized in the U.S.A. cause they're not allowed for us thats the issue. They were not intended for the USA thats the problem unless EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and the other NAZI's have authorize it we WILL NOT see them on our shores.

I would think 350/500 is just the starting point. Stage 1.

Remember also its an f30 so assuming they started with a 335d it started with 309hp and 464 lb ft, so its not like they went totally crazy with the tune.

Yes I have done a LOT of reading and realize that the D can be squeezed without too much difficulty, that and the mileage are the main reason I picked one up. I just really don't want to have to do the whole EGR/EPA exhaust delete thing.
When I hit 50k I would like to get the car flashed, add meth, and a LSD that is probably as far as I will go with it.
I am currently running a DTUK chip and that adds a nice kick, not sure how much HP, but very noticeable.

North Carolina dropped the tail pipe sniffer about 10 years ago. They do an OBD, visual check and safety check.
I have a turbo Eclipse highly modified, big turbo, FMIC, injectors, high flow cat, etc, etc.
Just popping the hood it is obvious that EPA crap is gone. Depending on where I take it for inspection, they either hit me with some miscellaneous charge, wipers, headlights, whatever BS, or just pass me. You know who gets my business.

So it would be easy for the Bimmer to pass, just not sure I want to do the EGR DPF delete - YET, that may change.
