Key fob not going in fully - crossed key warning light - help needed
Guys,
I came back from my holidays today, gettting in the car, trying to put the fob in the slot... surprise, it's not going all the way in. It only goes maybe half way in and then it stops. Oddly enough, even though as far as i know I dont have Comfort Access option, the car started without the fob in but spitted out the warning light - crossed key. I have managed to drive home but the car feels a little sluggish, not to mention the key is not in the slot which doesnt make me feel great. Looked briefly online and some people suggest replacing the fob (the one with non-replaceable battery). Went to BMW and they suggested a fault in the slot itself... My question is, is there a way to recharge the battery without putting it in the slot? Sadly, I lost my second fob so I cannot swap them. Suggestions guys? Thanks

yes, you can charge the battery without the key in the ignition. Battery should be charged without the key in the slot anyway.
I have a key socket holder lying about. If you want to change yours, shoot me your address and I will post that to you (may take few days though). I do not need it so if that helps, more than happy to send it.
