E93 subwoofer install.
Anyone know a box that fits in trunk?
Anyone know about this install?

On what grounds do you have to support that claim? I had a similar setup in my 235i and it sounded great, the bass does not get trapped in the trunk. "Most trunk mounted subwoofers produce bass lines that easily travel through most materials that separate the trunk from the passenger compartment. The only scenario that precludes bass lines from penetrating trunk and seat materials is if a vehicle has been sealed and soundproofed."

Depending on the skill of whoever is designing the sound system, I've heard of people picking up 6-12db via just the standing wave. 2) This is also dependent on the vehicle, but in mine, I have no fold down seats and no ski pass through. So, the effect would be the same as if I put a subwoofer in another room with the door closed. edit: Also, (this is easily reproduce-able too) I've seen many vehicles who's subs sounded louder with the ski pass down, or the split folding seats down, so it's obvious that there is some drop off. That drop off comes from backwaves cancelling your output. As subs fire back, you'll get output bounced back forward into the cabin. With corner loading, you'll have less backwaves to cancel your output. edit: It's because of the possibility of backwaves cancelling out sound that I think is why kaigoss69 loves his Infinite Baffle setup. The theory is that the frontal cone is actually in the cabin of the car (through ski pass), using the entire trunk as one big giant box. The theoretical backwave would be sealed off from penetrating forward. So all you'd have is the frontal wave with no cancellations. Last edited by Wongway; 10-06-2014 at 07:37 PM.. |

I don't doubt that a front firing sub might be better, I just don't have the pass through, and I want something I can easily remove quickly in case I need the space. I felt that my last setup sounded pretty good:

You can do what you want, I'm just telling you how it is. Your trunk panels will rattle like a mofo, and the bass that you hear will be a fraction of what the subs put out.

You might consider the JL Audio Stealthbox for the 3 series which uses 2 of their slim line subwoofers in a rear firing configuration:
http://creativecaraudio.net/c/jl-aud...s_bmw_3-series On the other hand, I have a Dynaudio Esotar 2 1200 mounted infinite baffle in the trunk firing through the ski pass and love it. MusicarNW has some corner loaded enclosures that fit over the battery compartment. One of those with a Morel Ultimo 12 would sound great. |

Your best option. Corner loaded would be second best (if possible) Back firing is your worst option. The science is there to support it, so do what you wish from there. Since I already have a 12" sub, an amp and a box that fits, will try the install and see how well it works. I may have to remove the fake partition for my non-cold weather pass through to improve sound.

I just built my own for a single 10" and it sounds great, even though the internal volume is a little under spec at 0.68 cu ft (with 0.75 being the min recommended volume for a Diamond D3 10"). But...I like tight, accurate bass.
Just remember: You have a maximun clearance of about 13" (closer to 13.75" but...) for the height of a sub box in the trunk of an E93 when it's up against the back seat like mine in order to get the roof in the trunk (which I found out the hard way). ! http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1071029
