And you trusted the leprechaun? I've seen the movie the tooth fairy and he did not smoke crack in it. Hollywood has to be right with their fact.
The leprechaun was a volunteer firefighter and a retired CIA agent. The unicorn went to high school with Dick Chaney. Enough said.
The unicorn is the weakest link then. That what you get for believing mythical horses.

How is the diesel in sunny CA? I spoke to my local dealership in Valencia CA about CBU issues and he said he has never heard of it. I have been holding back on buying a 335d because of the horror stories. I drive all my cars pretty hard and I love the torque of the 335d so under my ownership it will be getting a good cleaning by my right foot regularly

Your dealer either doesnt ever talk to the service department, or has his head in the sand.

Its really not a big deal, especially if you can be proactive, and if you get one that is CPO. Mine is now at 98k miles, I wouldnt hesitate to get one that is CPO if I were looking again (im keeping mine past 100k)

Apparently they never had to deal with any diesels. Otherwise they would know about all the problems with the car, or that guy is new there and has absolutely no knowledge of it.

Looking back at my experience (pretty horrific for any brand) it all came about because of the CBU, but was not properly diagnosed due to lack of knowledge of the mechanics.

The car was badly engineered in terms of regeneration warning. For years, or roughly 50k mile I had no idea when the regeneration was taking place. I would park the car on multiple occasions and the fan would come on. I thought the radiator or the intercooler were at fault and could not cope with the heat in CA. I even got a larger intercooler for that reason (and some extra power later with a tune).

The dealer replaced a lot of the exhaust parts on my car, treating it symptomatically. Everything, including one turbo was clogged up inside and diesel fuel inside the SCR.
As I would go through a regeneration, unknowingly I would stop the car and the cycle would not be complete.

When I got my car back from a different dealer for CBU cleanup, I started using the torque app to find out when the regen would take place and had the EGR blocked too.

I now religiously run a full regen cycle when it happens, unless I am a few miles away from a freeway and cannot make it time due to bad city traffic. In this situation the regen stops after only a few miles (3-4) and comes back maybe in 50-100 miles again. It usually lasts about 10 miles, but when I skip a cycle it runs 12-15 miles, maybe to compensate... I don't know.

Apparently the cost of CBU clean up came down a lot since my first encounter with it when I was quoted about $4000 for the job. I have seen posts here with prices less than $1000. Really not bad in this case.

If you get a CPO and read a lot of the posts here, I think you will be fine knowing what you get your self into.
Just remember it is a BMW and it breaks down a little more often than other brands.

I was extremely disappointed in the car back when it was mess, but armed with some recent knowledge and a fresh exhaust system plus CBU clean up, I think I will be fine for a long time.
It is the car you love to hate. I wanted to sell it so many times, but each time I got it back from the dealer (fixed) it always put a big smile on my face and had to apologize to her for even thinking about abandoning her.

How is regen indicated in Torque? I have an iPhone so whatever app I end up with I'll have to figure out how that is displayed.

High EGT temp, 0% EGR and usually a higher coolant temp.

I am not sure if torque is available to iPhone. Maybe BMWhat app. A lot more expensive, but you get a lot more with it too. For example battery registration.
