Bmw PhotShoot 24/12/2014
Recently took up photography (literally 2 weeks ago), and here are some pics of my 325i taken in Crystal Palace.
I will be expanding my experience with these kinda shoots and perhaps if anyone is interested in some work, I'll be happy to oblige. Would love to hear your comments. Ps: I probably could have got a better outcome had I given the car a wash and polish (hasn't been for at least a month). Also, I cropped out the pics with my number plate. Will post later when I've had a chance to edit the plate number out. Pics taken at 9pm.

What camera did you get?
Before starting to mess about with lighting effects you should concentrate on the basics. Make sure the car is in focus and not the background, and if you look at the car around the bonnet area, its mostly just a black hole. If you had of stood with the light source behind you, the car would of been lit up. Standing looking at the drivers side would of got you a much better picture. How many photos did you take? Remember, at often find you are taking dozens of shots just to end up with a few decent ones. Quality not quantity is definitely the rule with photography. Have you got a tripod? |

You can take very good pics with a phone, the key is how you compose shots and have the right bits in focus, good light etc.
having a good camera doesn't make you a good photographer, if anything it can make it worse while you're learning |

Better yet, I'll post a photo. Nikon D5300 Lens: Nikon Nikkor AF-S 18-55MM Lens: Nikon Nikkor AF 50MM Tripod Multiple flashlights, one with 2000 Lumen (I'm into light painting btw) I took at least 20 shots that night and have different raw files to play with. Just haven't mastered editing them out. Learning to use Lightroom and Photoshop. I'm making a few DIY tools to use for light effects around the car. Yet to buy Flashgun Light Softener/Reflector Lamps Remote shutter release

Here's some of the Equipment I use. I'll be interested to hear if anyone has any cool locations to take photos.
I understand what you mean with the light sources but I don't have full equipment right now but will make the best of what I have just to get the idea right. I did play about using a flashlight but it was too direct and looked like a spotlight. So a soft box is definitely needed. Bear in mind this was my first ever try and it was night time. However I welcome all tips/criticism.

Start in the day time, practice practice practice. Learn about composition first.
Also, that isn't light painting, that's dicking about with a coloured bulb. Leave the editing alone until your base image is acceptable. Just start super simple. Also - www.talkphotography.co.uk Last edited by Digitalize; 12-27-2014 at 01:30 PM.. |

Good starting point but, as others have said, learn how to use your equipment 1st and the rest will fall into place. I use a Lumix G3 for night shots as it seems to be so much better than my 600d. That is probably down to the lens though as I have not really bothered buying anything other than a kit lens for the Canon.

Literally threw the G3 on the tripod inbetween the rain/snow and did a 40 second exposure. No composition or thought just put tripod outside the door and hit the remote
Will need to start messing about a bit more as dont use my gear anywhere near enough.

Thanks all for your messages. I will try and keep this post alive to reflect my progress. I was light painting however but was testing a home made light source. i havent got a remote shutter release so timing was a bit poor. Didnt help it was quite cold and i was a bit paranoid that late in the park with all my equipment vulnerably exposed to mugging/theft.
I did have the old bill stopover though to chek out what i was doing to which they laughed and drove off. Thanks again guys, hopefully my next set of photos would be something to be proud of.
