Need car speakers and advice.

So one of my JL c5-400 speakers blew, so I want to upgrade to a new system. I'm currently looking at the reputable Focal 100krs components, but I'm worried I could get a better speaker for way less. I also went into Rainbow Dl-c4.2 the specs sound promising and it's just half the price Focal, are Focal really worth it? They're not really a lot of options for a 4" speakers. I was currently running JL C5-400 speakers in the front with Alpine tweeters paired with a crossover, I wasn't dissapointed, but I'm looking for more. Should I go for it and get the Focal speakers? Thanks

Honestly, it comes down to personal taste.

I myself have yet to hear a Focal speaker that was worth its money. There's always a better or just as good a speaker for equal or less $$.

Focals are great, used the 100krs on my E87 and managed to win a couple of audio competitions out there such as iasca and emma. But remember that your audio build is only as good as the weakest link in your system. Feed the focals garbage sound and you get garbage...feed them pure signal and they'll please your ear.

You have to hear them with your own ears. Pick the ones that sound the best. Back in the day when I was an installer, it even varied based on the size. One maker had the best 4 1/2", another the best 5 1/4", etc. listen to them with your music on a similar deck and amp combo and see. Female vocals are the best as they are the hardest to reproduce.

The Morels are pretty much in a league of their own. The tweeters are very detailed, airy and warm, yet they lack the harshness of the Focals and other tweeters with metal domes. The mids are among the better ones I have heard, especially when you factor in their capability to play much lower than other 4" drivers. They can easily play 100Hz (with a 24dB/oct slope) which will help give more body to most instruments and voices and lift the mid-bass up higher. I used to run a 160Hz high-pass with the Hybrid Audios and now with the JBL Gti's I've got it set at 100Hz and the difference is very noticeable and has been a welcome improvement.

That right there might be why I find it's so much a matter of taste.

Don't know if it's because I'm getting old, but I remember when I was younger I loved the bright crisp tweeters. Nowadays, I'm finding I tend to like warmer materials. I like silk tweeters more, paper cones instead of the harder materials, etc.

Best analogy I can think of is this:
I really like the output of Samsung LED TVs these days. However, they're hyper realistic to the point that I know in the back of my mind that it's too fake. You never see grass that green in real life. You can't make out people's pores when you see them up close in real life. So with realism in mind, you still can't beat out a good Plasma screen TV.

In that same vein, some of those high end speakers are just too much for my ears to take.

On the subject of tv's that aren't 4k led's

On the subject of tv's that aren't 4k led's
I agree with you plasma's are better but the last
of the good ones (panasonics vt series) will no longer
be produced. But the OLED technology looks like its
going to beat the old plasma tech . Now it they can only make
55 inch under 2k with a 4k resolution.

I think Morels for the doors and Jehnerts for the floors
is the best somewhat reasonable audiophile choice for speakers.

+1 for Morels and Jehnerts, might as well get them from Musicar NW since they come ready to install.

Agreed. Focal is a great company and have an outstanding reputation in the high end pro audio world. (Recording studio monitors.). I believe they try to ride that wave into car audio as there prices suggest very high end speakers. They are not bad but not worth the price. Pro audio is another story.

It all depends on your $$$$ and personal taste. I have the Jehnert flatline kit and I'm quite happy with it.
