Range Rover schools BMW in diesel tech
Impressive car and numbers, but what really caught my eye was how RR managed to clean the exhaust gases and keep the engine clean too (i.e. no CBU).
http://blog.caranddriver.com/diesel-...-u-s-for-2016/ "There’s also a new low-pressure exhaust-gas-recirculation (EGR) setup; this particular system recaptures exhaust gases after the diesel particulate filter; most EGRs pull the gases directly from the hot exhaust manifold before feeding them back into the turbo." |

You mean to tell me it is mechanically possible to recirculate post dpf clean air as opposed to soot filled air? How dare they?!?!
Yeah, that's great stuff. Does look like an awesome engine with very nice numbers. How about they then combine that with what cummins can do which is use a Rotary Turbine Control valve to "...act as a throttle in the exhaust stream, raising the back pressure to act as an exhaust brake when the driver lifts off the accelerator. This throttle mode can also increase the work done in the cylinder, in turn elevating exhaust-gas temperatures to burn off the soot that’s been captured in the diesel particulate filter." I kind of assume that by doing this there will no longer be a need to dump fuel in there during regen to raise EGT's. Also, the range rover's engine is at least 6 years newer than our engines (not sure how long the m57 has been around in Europe)... That said, if I were spending money on a range rover, I'd be all over the diesel sport model
