Also learned how to drive stick on it. It was the start of my love and appreciation for BMW and definitely a reason I bought my F80. Unfortunately after 20 years it started to develop some serious electric problems and a battery drain so had to part with it, but a great experience.
You owned the car for 20 years? Bravo sir! Thats real car love right there.

Owned an amazing 1983 533i for several years. While old that car still handled and drove superb. After a week of business travel driving GM's rental of the week, getting back in the ol e28 reminded me what real automotive engineering is all about. I later sold it with over 312,000 miles on it and it still ran flawlessly.

I almost purchased a 85 M535i for a lousy $3k and now I'm kicking myself in the ass for not doing it 5 years ago. This same car just sold for $7k up in Ft. Lauderdale area. E28's are tanks, owned one for 16 years lol.

That's a "dog leg" and is the sportiest non sequential gear box. It offers a faster shift between second and third gears than a normal manual. a shift between second and third is used far more often than a shift between first and second.
Thank you for clearing that up!
Yea. Thats pretty cool. Never would of thought that was the reason. Would be fun to try.

Considering even in a DD car. You shift from 2-3-4 more than anything. So i wonder why thats not something that carried over to newer bmw manuals.

I had a friend that had one of these cars. What a cool car.
I guess I'm getting old, a while back dog legs were the rage, same way as flappy paddles are now (or at least were a few years back)

Why? Because most people would forget and reverse straight into the car behind them.
