Brake pad sensor

Hey everyone, so I am changing my brakes on Friday and I'm now a little stuck wether to order a sensor or not, I have seen some people say can reset the obc however I'm not 100% if this is true or how to do it if anyone could advise me?

Is it recommended to change this sensor or will it be ok for the life of the new discs?

Should probably add that the warning light has not come on and still read aprox 9k

Cheers for any help

Shaun

Definitely change the sensor. I've just bought new front discs and pads and the sensor was £7 (Pagid, ECP) really not worth the worry!

Euro Car Parts or CarParts4Less. Its not OEM but Pagid are OE manufacturers for VW, Porsche e.t.c. I paid £90 for the front disks (larger 330mm type), about £35 for pads and £7 for the wear sensor. Carparts4less currently have an offer where you get £15 off for spending over £100 so I used that, and got it delivered next day for £1.99 - dead impressed with the whole thing

Sure that wasnt a wheel speed sensor for 71?

Remove the sensor carefully from the pad, and the brass spring clip (hard to see when dirty) and check it's not buffed at all, if its not buffed then i'd say you could reuse it, if its buffed i'd just replace it even although their is SOME plastic between the disc and the metal wear indicator.

But for £7....

Replace the sensor and reset the OBC.

You wont be able to reuse them as they will mess up the warning on the OBC.

No was the brake pad sensor for that price, managed to get washer pump, brake pad sensor & 2 new disc grub screws from euro car parts for £30 so a nice saving on bmw parts.

Had a massive pain in the backside with ebc pads, the "lovely" woman at ebc direct had not told me there are 2 types of pad (one has slightly smaller ears) anyway after abit of a rant & how they did not know there own return policy after sending them out wrong & not making me aware there were different ones... I managed to get them to fit & the difference is amazing, just need to get the rears done next sometime.

Random question but i noticed my sensor has been neatly cable tied up and not in use. No dash warnings . any reason for this besides cost of sensor ?

You won't have any dash warnings as the sensor hasn't made contact with the disc to complete the connection and trip.

It's usually only tied out the way if there is no location on the pad for it to fit in (so for example if a BBK is fitted).
