How quick is a Lotus Elise?
I was driving down the street today, and there was a nice blue Elise in front of me. I went to pass him, and he down shifted and revved all the way to his rev limiter. After that he was cruising behind me. We came to a red light, and he switched lanes and moved right next to me. I was kind of afraid because I knew that weighing less than 2000 lbs made them pretty quick 0-60. I believe 4.6 seconds? Well I think he was surprised by what a 335i can do...LOL

theyre quick, not super fast... low 13's and high 4 second 0-60 i usually saw 4.8 seconds, i would guess that as they get going the 335i would start pulling away thanks to the extra hp and tq

I owned a Elise before my 335i. They are a lot more fun to drive than the 335i, the 335i will never catch a Lotus in turns and on the track, never. On a straight line they are very similar but the 335i much more comfortable and nicer rider! I wouldn't buy lotus again unless as a second car...

Nice run ... that elise needs a forcedfed turbo kit. I had one of those on order back in the day before they were stateside, but after waiting for a year and a half I just cancelled the order. Looking back I guess it was for the best anyway because I would have regretted it once the exige came out a year later. They are fun as hell to drive though.

OK you guys will probably call bullshit but I was running both faster laptimes and faster corner entry/apex/exit speeds than a Lotus Elise. In a straight line it wasn't even close.
His car definitely felt more "fun" when I rode it in it as a passenger. Tighter, more dramatic, harsher limit but.....slower. I was on V2.02 and race rubber. He was running his Advan Dot-Rs. We were both in the advanced group and he had done far more schools and days than me. I was shocked too. |

It's the Exige S that's the burner, i've seen 4.0 and 4.1 (Lotus website says 4.1) for that car. Can't wait to have one of those!!! 335 isn't keeping up with that!

Ok, I absolutely despise magazine racing, but I don't have the video from my own experience. The Elise isn't as fast on the track as people think.
Notwithstanding my own experience outpacing an Elise on track, Motor Trend did a test at Laguna Seca. http://www.motortrend.com/features/1...onclusion.html The EXIGE was 4 seconds faster than the stock 335i. First, take off the supercharger to make it an Elise, then add race rubber and Procede V2.02 to the BMW and It's pretty obvious the 335i V2 is as fast, if not faster in capable hands. The sleight of hand the Elise performs is that it comes off the assembly line with race rubber! |

I'm not calling BS. I pass them all the time on track. I always chalked it up the driver, but after speaking to a few of those people they all had more seat time than I did.

The E92 chassis is 25% stiffer than the E90 (per BMW), so I imagine that has some impact especially if you have race rubber traction and are trying to power out of the corners. I do know that the pre-March E90s without TPMS were unable to completely turn off the nannies. That said, I'd bet the E92 is very very very slightly (talking less than half a second) faster than the E90 on a typical 2-3 mile road course. I have access to an E90 also, but I can't say I'm consistent enough to isolate out differences in the chassis. |
