COBB AP (version 2.0): undocumented OTS maps for 98GOB

I just flashed my DME for the 1st time, as I added a DP, FMIC & CP.

I was a bit thrown to be presented with additional OTS maps that are not documented on the COBB map listings.
1. Stg2+ COBB FMIC Aggressive 98GOB Adjusted 7
2. Stg2+ COBB FMIC Aggressive 98GOB Adjusted 8

I do plan on emailing COBB, but I'm curious to see if any COBB customers have information on how these unpublished maps differ from the standard Stg2+ aggressive...

Interesting - where did you see those maps? I also have 98G0B ROM and haven't noticed the availability of different Stage2+ FMIC Aggressive maps.

They are preloaded on the AP

Humm - I didn't have those on mine. I have a V3 from about 6 months ago.

I just have the standard maps listed on the website. Sorry I can't be of help.

Did you buy a used Cobb AP? The previous owner probably adjusted it a few times himself using Cobb ATR

Sounds like someone named them... These are not standard. Did you buy your AP used? Have you done a ProTune?

Bought the unit used and have not done any custom maps yet.

I don't believe that the prior owner was on 98GOB, as I had to request an update from COBB, to allow my AP to interface with the ROM.

I did an update to the AP just prior to flashing the DME on 1/17.

I got a reply from COBB, but the tech misread my question and gave me the numbers for the Stg 2+ FMIC aggressive OTS map. I've resent the question

98G0B is supported by the AP out of the box - not sure why you ended up needing Cobbs help to run that on your vehicle.

As others stated; I think these are custom maps by the previous owner. I wouldn't use them - if you do, log and post the logs to ensure values are within threshold.

As an FYI, updating your AP using Access Port Manager wouldn't remove the custom logs so even if you did that they would still be there.

I have that DME version and after a dealership update, the Cobb AP was no longer able to flash to my car. So it is possible but it's easy for Cobb to fix that.

COBB got back to me, as most have surmised, the prior owners custom maps were retained in the AP

Mike - how do you like the V3? What stage / setup are you running with it? Any issues so far? Going between that and the JB4

I love it! I was running Stg2+ FMIC Aggressive but I just switched to my first starter map by PTF this morning.

I must admit that I was a little disappointed with Stg2 Aggressive - I expected more, especially in torque. But when I went to Stg 2+ FMIC Aggressive all was good and I was very happy! The car pulls great and has a ton of torque. I am excited to finalize the custom map with PTF.

As far as the COBB itself, I have not had a single issue. The OTS maps were pretty conservative and I didn't have any problems - except room for improvement as I noticed throttle closures. Also I run rich post shift , 10.9:1.

The unit works well and has all the gauges I would need. Installation and updates are a breeze. I have also reached out to their Customer Service (Josh) a number of times and they have been prompt and professional in their replies.

Overall a great experience!

That's awesome and thanks for the info! I probably wouldn't be running over a stage 1 aggressive for now - just going to have the CP and BMW intake on the vehicle (CP more just for reliability). Haven't made the move to upgrade the FMIC but do you think it is necessary? The Stage 2 aggressive map requires what setup?

For Stage 2 Aggressive, I believe you need; Downpipe, ChargePipe, Intake.

For Stage 2+ FMIC Aggressive, you need all the above and a FMIC.

Unless you want to go to Stage2+ FMIC Aggressive (or Stage 1+ FMIC Aggressive) then an aftermarket Intercooler isn't necessary. But my suspicion is you will do Stage 1 Aggressive then quickly want to go to Stage 2, then will want to go to Stage 2+ FMIC. Just a hunch! I starged at Stage 1 Aggressive and in less than a month purchased more parts and went to Stage 2+ FMIC Aggressive and custom map

Haha I don't doubt- it is very likely since the warranty just ran out too. Can I ask, how many miles do you have on yours? Daily driven? Sorry for all of the questions - been trying to do enough research before going on a JB4 or AP --> Also trying to make sure I don't get one that's going to have massive boost spike especially in the low-end range

Not a problem!

My car has 42,xxx miles (still 6 months warranty and 2 years CPO). It is daily driven - I commute about 8 miles one way to work. Then my wife and I usually drive my car on the weekends. The car is all kept up on maintenance and I just did the plugs as well.

I do have high boost in low gears, sometimes 21 PSI. I am hoping the custom map lowers it a bit. In 3rd gear I am hitting 16psi by 3k RPMs. But it really isn't much of a spike - it is a pretty linear progression with boost change.

That said, my Stage 1 Aggressive and Stage 2 (non FMIC) did not boost that high at all.

Awesome - yes, trying to keep the boost down to about 14psi max for now - I don't want a substantial risk of blowing something, and I should / need to do the plugs on the car. I'm right at about 59k now, but the motor has been well maintained its whole life. Figured stage 1 aggressive might be the safest way to get a little more "umphhh" out of the car especially on the torque band without really risking any huge mechanical failures...hopefully haha

Any other suggestions I'd gladly take - you've been really helpful, thanks!
