hi, I am soon to be 335xi coupe owner. I am planning to get the procede, but have some questions. how long does it take to install the procede? how difficult is it? how often do you need to install the procede? even when getting oil change? how often are BMW maintence schedules?

How tehnically oriented are you? The PROcede, JB2, or Helix, or AA Xede, install invovles accessing the car's engine control unit. You extract some wires from the wiring harness plugs and intercept them with wires from the piggyback ECU's harness. Cover them with electrical tape. Tap into power in the ECU enclosure and you're done (more or less). Is it easy? I don't think I would classify it as "easy" but it's not difficult by any means. Check out the installation video for the PROcede V1.xx here and see what you think. There is also a written install instruction here. My PROcede V1.47 install took a couple of hours. I had printed instructions and I followed it to the letter, checking off each item as I completed it. No problems, one limp mode due to crappy gasoline. Just installed PROcede V2 and its fantastic. Took about 1.5 hours, taking my time and double checking everything. Really no big deal at all. Do your own oil post break-in oil change at a couple thousand miles (here we go with another thread - just search oil changes). You should do at least two oil changes before the 15,000mile oil change. Helps you get familar with your car and understand it better. Remove the piggyback ECU for any dealer service. My opinion, not necessarily fact, but a lot of people here agree. Why take any chances, plus it only takes about 30-45 minutes to go back to stock. Others will say you don't need to for oil changes, but I wouldn't take any chances. There are lots of ECU tuning options out there now and more just about to be introduced. Read everything you can and be wary of biased reviews. Try to talk to people who actually OWN the the piggybacks. Good luck with whatever you choose.

The TT is an easier install for sure, but you're talking about a 5 min job vs. a 30 min job. In the big picture we waste more than that 25 minutes every day on this forum. |
